Following the recent announcement of their 2019 reunion plans, rumours are now heating up at The Spice Girls will be tailing off their shows (which conclude on 15th June) with a headline appearance at next year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Featuring four of the five original members (Victoria Beckham has declined to take part), the reunion of arguably one of the biggest pop acts of all time will likely make big headlines for Glastonbury. In an interview at the Ivor Novello Awards back in May (prior to confirmation of the Girls’ reunion plans), Mel C told The Mirror that one of her biggest aspirations for the band would simply be “Glastonbury” – herself a big fan of the festival is likely to have pushed management to enter discussions.
Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has also previously suggested that future headliners could be groups that haven’t even graced the festival before.
Update: In their first major interview since announcing their reformation, the band spoke of the Glastonbury rumours, coyly saying “ooh that would be nice…. there’s no plans for that”. Mel B then interjected – “we should though”.
Spice Girls or no Spice Girls – with Emily Eavis speaking at BBC Introducing Live this weekend, it’s likely we should receive some sort of Glastonbury news pretty soon. Interestingly though – Emily’s talk kicks off at exactly the same time that tickets for the Spice Girls’ tour goes onsale (10:30am GMT) – coincidence or are we just trying to piece together something pointless?
