Maverick Sabre announces new album; details 2019 UK tour

Maverick Sabre has announced his long-awaited third studio album, ‘When I Wake Up’.

Set for release on 22nd March, the singer’s new record follows on from 2015’s ‘Innerstanding’, and has already been preceded by lead single ‘Drifting‘, released back in September. Last week, Maverick also connected with Chronixx for the emotive ‘Her Grace‘.

The announcement of ‘When I Wake Up’ also aligns with the reveal of various tour dates in celebration of the record. Kicking off in Nottingham on 1st April, Sabre will then cover the country stopping in Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Brighton, Exeter and Bristol. He will also play a headline show at London’s Electric Brixton on 11th April.

Janelle Monáe announces summer 2019 London show

Following on from her hugely-successful Dirty Computer Tour, which saw her play sold out shows at Camden’s Roundhouse, Janelle Monáe has now announced her return to the UK, with a show at London’s Wembley Arena in July 2019.

Set to hit the venue on 2nd July (mere days after Glastonbury, *cough cough*), the announcement of the show follows the recent reveal of ‘Dirty Computer’s two nominations for next year’s Grammy Awards (Best Music Video for ‘Pynk’, and Best Album for the record itself).

BBC reveal Sound of 2019 longlist

BBC Music have revealed the longlist for their Sound Of 2019 poll.

Featuring 10 emerging talents, and chosen by a panel of industry experts (including Stormzy, BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, Emily Eavis and Olly Alexander), the 2019 longlist follows on from last year’s poll which saw the likes of Khalid, Sam Fender and Sigrid among the finalists.

Dermot Kennedy, Ella Mai, Flohio, Grace Carter and King Princess kick off the first five, whilst Mahalia, who was recently announced as runner-up for the BRITs Critics Choice Award, also makes an appearance. Octavian, Rosalía, Sea Girls and SlowThai finalise the longlist.

Last year’s winner Sigrid says: “BBC Music’s Sound Of 2018 helped me so much with reaching a new audience and giving my music some extra exposure on the radio. I’m still very thankful for being chosen as this year’s Sound Of, and I am so excited to see who this year’s winner will be!”. Meanwhile Annie Mac added “The Sound Of longlist is filled with incredibly talented people and is a real reflection of where music is heading in 2019. So many of the artists are truly innovating in their fields. It’s exciting to champion new music across the BBC and share these artists with the audience. 2019 is going to be a very special year.”

The daily countdown of the Top 5 will kick off on Monday 7th January 2019 in Annie Mac’s show on BBC Radio 1 (7-9pm), whilst the winner will be announced on Friday 11th January.

2019 Grammy nominations announced

The nominees for the 2019 Grammy Awards have been announced ahead of the ceremony’s return to LA on 10th February.

Over the course of the morning, select categories were announced by the likes of Zane Lowe, alongside Alessia Cara, Shawn Mendes and Janella Monae, via both CBS’ This Morning and Apple Music. As per previous years, all artists under consideration must have released recordings between 1st October 2017 to 30th September 2018.

Sinead Harnett has followed up September’s ‘System’ with her new mid-tempo ballad, ‘Lessons’. Premiered as DJ Target’s ‘Targo Embargo’ on his recent 1Xtra show, the song was unveiled by Harnett, saying “if you’re reading this you’ll probably know that I write songs about love, and all it’s many challenges 🥀 ‘Lessons’ – my latest offering”.

Liam Payne announced for MelodyVR’s first live-streamed gig

MelodyVR, self-described as the world’s first virtual reality music platform, have revealed Liam Payne as the star for their first ever global live-stream.

Announced earlier today (7th December), the event will take place at a secret London location on 19th December, with fans internationally (and in the UK) able to immerse themselves on-stage with Liam via the MelodyVR app on the Oculus Go standalone headset or Samsung’s Galaxy Gear.

Payne’s show has also been touted as the first in a series of VR broadcasts from MelodyVR, which has secured exclusive relationships across the music sphere, including all the major labels, publishers, music festivals and various concert venues too (including London’s O2 Arena and Alexandra Palace). Whilst features for the event are still under-wraps, existing shows on the MelodyVR app allow users to be transported across various ‘jump spots’, from within the crowd, to front-of-stage, to right next to the artist itself.

“I can’t wait for this show” says Liam – “For those who are going to be there on the night, it’s going to be amazing, but the fact there will be people from right across the globe watching the live stream via MelodyVR makes it extra special.”
