Hear Labrinth, Sia and Diplo collaborate on ‘Genius’

After teasing their new partnership back in March, Labrinth, Sia and Diplo have finally unveiled their new LSD collaboration ‘Genius’.

Coming alongside a vibrant new video, the track marks Diplo’s first piece of new material since last month’s excellent ‘California’ EP – Labrinth also teased up the new project by starting his official Instagram afresh. The trio have also confirmed that LSD indeed marks the formation of a new supergroup – another new song ‘Audio’ will follow next week, with an album also confirmed too.

Bestival announces further measures to reduce single-use plastics for 2018

Bestival organisers have announced plans to further reduce reliance on single-use plastics, by removing plastic bottles for sale.

The new initiative – which comes in the wake of ‘The Final Straw’ campaign – will see single-use water bottles now be fully replaced by canned CanO Water at the onsite bars at both Bestival and Camp Bestival. To-date, over 60 festivals have pledged to eradicate single-use plastics from their events by 2021; as a festival that prides itself on ethical and human-standards, it’s great to see Bestival be one of the first major events to undertake such an initiative so early on.

“We’re very serious about reducing the plastic waste at our festivals, which we know is a problem that needs solving” says Bestival founder Rob Da Bank. “We’ve already launched The Final Straw and joined the Drastic on Plastic campaign, so getting rid of plastic water bottles and using CanO Water’s 100% recyclable cans on our bars is a big step ahead in our mission. We’d love for all the traders on site to be plastic free right now but we’re also realistic that can’t happen overnight. Our goal is 2021 but we’re going to do as much as we can before that date and bringing in CanO Water is an important step that we’re pleased we can make this year.”

This year’s Bestival, which takes place on 2-5th August, will see the likes of Mark Ronson and Diplo, London Grammar, M.I.A, Grace Jones, Jorja Smith, Plan B, Chaka Khan and Mura Masa grace the event’s new home at Dorset’s Lulworth Estate. Tickets are onsale now over on the official Bestival site.

Hear Lauryn Hill put her own spin back on Drake’s ‘Nice For What’

Lauryn Hill took her performance at New York’s Apollo Theatre to higher climbs last night, cutting the music during ‘Ex-Factor’ and instead placing her own spin on Drake’s ‘Nice For What’. The latter track, which heavily samples the chorus of the former, hears extra flows from Lauryn – “See this is ‘Ex-Factor’ he took the sample. My shit is classic, here’s an example”.

The former member of The Fugees is currently on a US tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her seminal debut album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’; no word on any European dates yet, but you can bet we’ll be there to cover any kind of schedule if/when they’re announced.

Maribou State are back! Hear their new single ‘Turnmills’

Maribou State have announced their first taste of new music since 2015’s breakthrough ‘Portraits’, returning from hibernation with ‘Turnmills’.

Stunning from the offset, ‘Turnmills’ adds a further groove into the duo’s tracks of bygone – there’s some potent, subtle lyrics sporadically thrown in, but the masterwork has to be around the addictive baseline that runs throughout. This is truly gorgeous!

Written as a homage to the famed London club of the same name, Maribou State’s Liam says “Turnmills was where we first experienced electronic music in a club setting. It’s a totally different and transformative listening experience and that communal spirit, atmosphere and feeling has inspired the way we’ve made music… Clubs are such important hubs for music discovery, especially of songs that you might have overlooked in a different setting. Partly through the feeling in the room and also through the memories attached to the records you hear.”

“We wrote ‘Turnmills’ the day after a Dama Dama label party at the East London club Shapes” continues the band’s Chris, adding “The vibe of the night brought back memories of our formative clubbing experiences and that energy ended up being channeled straight back into the studio the next day.”

More mysterious clues for The 1975’s new music appear

It seems things really are starting to ramp up for The 1975’s impending return now… No sooner had recent sightings of billboards for their new project ‘Music For Cars’ were spotted in the wild, now more clues are dropping in a bid to intrigue, excite (and also confuse).

Alongside further online teasers doing the rounds on Twitter, the band’s official website has also been updated to now include a countdown to 1st June. Meanwhile, the band have also tweeted an image of what looks like some kind of reliance on VR headsets – theoretically could this also lead to a live VR-streamed gig to promote the new project? Could 1st June finally see the release of ‘Music For Cars’? Is it still called ‘Music For Cars’? Fingers crossed the first single (or at least a teaser) will land soon though, and all our questions will be answered:

Hear The Glitch Mob’s striking new single ‘Go Light’

We’ve already a good couple of tracks from their new album ‘See Without Eyes’, and with the project landing in just a matter of days, The Glitch Mob have now graced us with another new single, the stunning ‘Go Light’.

One of the few tracks without any guest features, ‘Go Light’ is as signature to the trio’s sound as fans could ever want – with glitches amass, the song also hears distortions and dreamy synths throughout. Definitely one for both those accustomed to The Glitch Mob, whilst also a welcoming entrance to those new to their sound.

Bonobo added to Lovebox 2018 lineup

Bonobo will follow up last year’s ‘Migration’ with a headline slot at this summer’s Lovebox, festival organisers have confirmed.

Set to cap off the Noisey Stage on Saturday 14th July, the producer will join previously-announced acts including The Internet, SZA, Childish Gambino, Mabel and more as Lovebox marks its first year at London’s Gunnersbury Park.

Kurupt FM announce final season of ‘People Just Do Nothing’

BBC mockumentary ‘People Just Do Nothing’ has been confirmed for its fifth season.

Announced earlier today, the show which follows the lives of Brentford-based setup Kurupt FM, will return to the BBC for its final series later this summer – unlike previous years, the show will also make its way to BBC Two, having historically been a fixture on the broadcaster’s online-only BBC Three.

Sia, Diplo and Labrinth’s new collaboration to be released this week

Following the earlier announcement of their new partnership back in March, Labrinth, Sia and Diplo have confirmed they will release their new collaboration later this week.

Set to land on Thursday (3rd May), the track has been teased with the tentative title ‘LSD’ (an acronym of their names) – all three artists have since changed their social accounts to mimic animated versions of themselves too. Meanwhile Sia shared what appears to be either a photoshoot of the trio or an excerpt from the track’s video (below). We guess it seems we’ll find out more in a matter of days.

The Streets announce 2019 UK tour

Mike Skinner has announced The Streets will embark on a new run of UK dates in early 2019, following the success of his recently-completed ‘The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light’ tour.

Announcing eleven new shows, Skinner and co will kick off their 2019 run in Birmingham on 18th January, closing with three O2 Brixton Academy appearances the following month. **UPDATE: Due to overwhelming demand, further dates have now been added to the schedule**

Over the past few months, Mike Skinner has revealed five new tracks from The Streets – a new album is also currently in the works to soundtrack a film Skinner is working on.
