NAO releases new song ‘Drive and Disconnect’

NAO has shared the upbeat ‘Drive and Disconnect’, the latest song from her forthcoming album ‘Saturn’.

Set for release in October, the singer’s new record follows her 2016 debut ‘For All We Know’, and has already been preceded by further singles ‘Another Lifetime‘ and ‘Make It Out Alive’. Listen: Tourist returns with new track, ‘Apollo’

Over the past few years, it seems Tourist has crafted a knack of having his finger on the pulse throughout every movement of the electronic scene. From the calming ‘Run’ to the more uptempo, psychedelic ‘Foolish’ (both from 2016’s ‘U’), it’s clear the producer knows how to strike the right balance between sofa-surfing and dancefloor-havening, and today he errs more to the latter with his new single ‘Apollo’.

Promised earlier in the week, the new song follows last year’s four-tracker ‘Wash EP, and delivers a more expansive look in the world of electronica. There’s elements of ‘soft trance meets murky 3am light-shows’ here, but ultimately the beauty lies within the vibrant, delicate beat. For DJ’s, it may not be the easiest track to initially beat-match with (the first half of the song, specifically, finds little in the way of a steady clap), but ‘Apollo’ shines after the 2:20-mark where Tourist’s own production versatilities, and knowledge of futuristic and vibrant textures, totally come through.

Jorja Smith has made her first Mercury Music Prize appearance, performing her breakthrough hit ‘Blue Lights’ to a packed Hammersmith Apollo in London.

Nominated for her debut album ‘Lost & Found’, Jorja joins the likes of Florence + The Machine, Arctic Monkeys, Lily Allen and Wolf Alice among the 2018 nominee list for a record that has been three years in the making.

Florence + The Machine kicked off this year’s Mercury Music Prize, performing ‘Hunger’, the lead single from the band’s Mercury-nominated album ‘High As Hope’.

Released earlier in the summer, ‘High As Hope’ already has the feel of a career-defining moment for Florence (and has suitably earned her the strongest praise of her career from fans and media alike). Featuring the aforementioned ‘Hunger’ alongside ‘Sky Full Of Song’, and ‘Big God’, Florence started writing the record (which is also the first she has officially co-produced) in solitude in South London: routinely cycling to her studio in Peckham everyday to, as she puts it, “bang on the wall with sticks”. She took the songs to Los Angeles with her friend and co-producer Emile Haynie, opening them up along the way for collaboration with the likes of Kamasi Washington, Sampha, Tobias Jesso Jr, Kelsey Lu and Jamie xx. Florence mixed the record in New York, where the daily, reassuring view of that iconic skyline – often in stark contrast to the chaos of the wider world – gave the album its upbeat title.

Hear Mumford and Sons’ new song, ‘Guiding Light’

Mumford & Sons have released their new single ‘Guiding Light’.

Premiered on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show (as her latest ‘Hottest Record’), the track marks the first piece of new music from the band since their 2015 LP, ‘Wilder Mind’. ‘Guiding Light’ is the first song to be lifted from the band’s forthcoming album ‘Delta’, out in November.

Watch AlunaGeorge’s new video for ‘Superior Emotion’

Following the track’s initial release a fortnight back, AlunaGeorge have now released the video for their Cautious Clay-assisted, ‘Superior Emotion’.

Lifted off their upcoming ‘Champagne Eyes’ EP, out on 5th October, the track was recorded in NYC earlier this year, and follows the group’s recent tie-up with SG Lewis on ‘Hurting‘.

Watch Yore’s video for his debut single ‘Knew Better’

Newcomer Yore has shared the mesmerising video for his striking debut single ‘Know Better’.

Co-produced alongside Kendrick Lamar-collaborator Robin Hannibal, the track delivers a compelling slice of alt/future-R&B – think along the lines of ‘Gallant meets SG Lewis meets Frank Ocean’ and you’re some-way there.

Of the track, Yore says “The song is an expression of new vulnerability and regret I started writing three years ago. I was going through an intense period of alone time trying to figure out my life, listening to a lot of meditative ambient music, and found this beautiful instrumental by a Ukrainian composer called Heinali. There was a melody I couldn’t get out of my head, so I just recorded a demo right there at home and forgot about the song for some time. Several months later a friend introduced me to Robin. I’ve always been a fan of his musical sensibility, his attention to detail, his intentionality. He really pays attention to everything and was able to bring my vision to life.”

Hear Boys Noize and Steven A. Clark team up to rework Adamski’s ‘Killer’

German producer Boys Noize (aka Alex Ridha) has revealed his new cover of Adamski and Seal’s legendary acid-house track ‘Killer’.

Featuring reworked vocals courtesy of Steven A. Clark, the track comes following studio sessions with the pair after Ridha worked on Clark’s ‘Where Neon Goes To Die’ LP.

Describing their partnership, Boys Noize said “Being a 90s kid, I kind of grew up with this song which later became one of these tunes I’d play out at the end of the night. When I met Steven and heard his voice for the first time I immediately thought of that track and the idea of doing a cover version was born. It was initially just for fun, but it turned banging and lit the dancefloors wherever I’d drop it – so here I am sharing my industrial KILLER.”

Hear French Montana’s Drake-assisted new single ‘No Stylist’

French Montana has revealed his new Drake-featuring single, ‘No Stylist’.

Teased on Montana’s Instagram yesterday (alongside cover-art which stars Slick Rick), the track hears Drake continue on his feud with Kanye West – “I told her don’t wear no 350s around me” in response to Kanye’s Yeezy Boost 350 footwear range.

Alongside ‘No Stylist’, French has also shared two further songs, ‘Juice’ and ‘Nervous’.
