James Blake announces UK tour for September

Critically-acclaimed UK artist James Blake has announced a full-scale UK tour, starting this September.

The tour will be Blake’s first major headline since launching his latest album ‘Overgrown’ last week, the follow-up to his self-titled debut.

After embarking on covering the UK, the singer/songwriter will then take his tour to Europe, covering 7 major cities. Tickets are expected to go on sale this Thursday (18th April) at 9am, direct from Gigwise

Mark Lanegan teams up with Duke Garwood on ‘Black Pudding’

Mark Lanegan has teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Duke Garwood to release ‘Black Pudding’ via Heavenly Recordings on 13th May.

Lanegan, never one to shy away from unique collaborations, has previously worked with Isobel Campbell, Greg Dulli and as a member of The Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age and Soulsavers. On the collaboration, Lanegan tells:

“Duke Garwood is one of my all time favorite artists… working with him has been one of the best experiences of my recording life.”

Lanegan and Garwood met a few years ago while playing on the same bill and Garwood was a frequent opener on Lanegan’s recent European tour.

Garwood has often been described in the press as Lanegan’s “spiritual cousin across the Atlantic waters.” He has been widely praised as a master bluesman, with The Quietus saying:

“The combination of Garwood’s murmured vocals and the sound he gets out of his guitar – which ranges from a rolling, loose finger-picking to shuddering howls of feedback – has a hypnotic effect” and The Mirror dubbing him as “London’s leading exponent of the wheezy broke-down blues.”

Black Pudding was recorded at Pink Duck Studios in Burbank, California by Justin Smith (Tegan & Sara, The Hives) and mixed by his Queens of the Stone Age associate Alain Johannes.

New music just in! US singer/songwriter Lana Del Rey has just previewed her new track ‘Young and Beautiful’, taken from the forthcoming soundtrack for ‘The Great Gatsby’ movie.

Whilst I’ve never really ‘understood’ the hype around Lana Del Rey, I have to say that this is sounding pretty sweet. Similarly, I’ve never known a soundtrack to be as eagerly awaited as this one; the plethora of A-class acts who have contributed make it a stellar piece of work.

‘Young and Beautiful’ will be on the full soundtrack, expected to be released on April 23rd, two weeks prior to the movie’s release on May 7th.

Kid Cudi enlists King Chip and, err, Michael Bolton on ‘Afterwards’

US hiphop artist Kid Cudi has enlisted music legend Michael Bolton and King Chip on new single ‘Afterwards (Bring Your Friends)’.

The track, taken from Cudi’s forthcoming new LP ‘Indicud’, has a simple yet progressive beat, with both Bolton and Chip providing some strong vocals throughout.

British artist Jai Paul has quietly released his self-titled debut album on Bandcamp.

The release from the notorious artist came without any direct PR or associated notice; moreso Paul has let the art of social media spread the word for him.

All the tracks are untitled (which begs the question as to whether this was an accidental leak or an official upload), however track 16 is the artist’s infamous ‘BTSTU’, whilst other favourite ‘Jasmine’ also makes an appearance too. Unusually, the vocalist has also covered 90s classic ‘Crush’ by Jennifer Paige; it’s a bit shaky in parts but very cool to hear male vocals on a more ‘XX-y’ beat.

Based on ‘BTSTU’ and ‘Jasmine’ alone, I’ve been ridiculously excited by this debut. I’m sure many reviews will follow suit soon!

Following on from yesterday’s excitement at Coachella, Daft Punk have released the HD version of their ‘Get Lucky’ trailer. The clip, which aired during the adbreak of US show ‘Saturday Night Live’ last night, features the French duo alongside Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers in pure funk-mode.

I swear, Daft Punk’s PR machine are a fine example of how to do things RIGHT! Every single piece of information that’s released by the French electro group is whetting fans’ appetite for more. It all seemed peachy, with their ‘Collaborators’ series; then, yesterday morning, the extended trailer hit Coachella and went viral almost instantly.

Now, just when we thought we’d had enough ‘Random Access Memories’ news, the duo have confirmed their full tracklist for the album, along with the collaborators…. and it looks BRILLIANT!

Chic forntman Nile Rodgers is featured heavily on the album, as co-producer, whilst N*E*R*D star and all-round-cool-guy Pharrell Williams gas vocals aplenty too.

Iconic Swedish musician Neneh Cherry has returned to the music scene with new single ‘Nina’, produced by Four-Tet. The Aztec-inspired track is a collaboration between Cherry and Jungle Brother Afrika Baby Bam.

Unusual as it is by today’s dance-led charts, the track does cement as to why Cherry is so iconic, and, like Bjork, her return to music can only be a good thing.
