Young and Beautiful, Lana Del Rey’s lead single from The Great Gatsby soundtrack, has finally hit the net after weeks of short snippets.
With the movie set for release on May 16th, and star-led album expected to drop May 7th, it’s a great time for music and movie buffs.

Taken from the forthcoming movie The Great Gatsby, Queen Bey herself has joined forces with Outkast rapper Andre 3000 to cover Amy Winehouse’s classic Back to Black.
The track, which will appear on the movie’s eagerly-awaited soundtrack, puts Beyonce in sultry mode and completely turns the song on its head. Whether it needed to is debatable but check out the 1 1/2 minute snippet below and let us know your thoughts:
They say that if you dig deep enough you’ll find an absolute gem, and this is definitely one of those times! Kanye West fan-site Kanye To The has managed to get their hands on an unreleased demo album from way way back in 2001, and it sounds brilliant!
The Prerequisite (containing 15 fairly finished tracks) shares a strong resemblance to his chart-topping debut, 2004’s The College Dropout, and includes early versions of Jesus Walks, as well as a renamed version of All Falls Down (titled Dream Come True).

Initially released over the weekend on a cassette (yes, really!) to coincide with Record Store Day, MGMT’s new track ‘Alien Days’ is now appearing online.
The track is a strong return to form for the 5-piece, and encapsulates their psychedelic/rock natured styles.

That difficult second album is always one that separates a singer from an artist; high expectations can either produce a follow-up which goes down quicker than the Titanic, or venture up the scale, allowing the artist to pull off a career-affirming addition to his/her discography. Unfortunately, James Blake’s sequel to his 2011 self-titled effort sits somewhere nearer the middle of the order.
Whereas his debut heralded an amass of critical acclaim, fusing voice-manipulation with abruptly disjointed beats, Blake’s follow-up has tried (and in parts, failed) to make a success of his abilities as a vocalist and push the digitalised beats to the background.
‘Take A Fall For Me’, whilst a brilliant collaboration with RZA, feels like it would’ve felt more at home on the Wu Tang rapper’s own efforts, with Blake’s vocals hardly adding any huge substance. Lead single ‘Retrograde’, however, is a pure 10/10, allowing both vocals and beats to equally share audio pleasure. More forgettable moments come in the form of ‘To The Last’ and ‘Our Love Comes Back’, offering the listener very little value.
It isn’t that it’s a bad album, far from it – Blake has clearly gone through some hurt and pain to make this, however at times you could be fooled into thinking you were listening to a continuous track, often showing limited amounts of differentiation.
Nevertheless, Overgrown’s strength allows the sense of letting your cares drift away into your subconscious whilst that horrible presentation you’ve been working on that’s due in 2 hours suddenly doesn’t seem that bad. The album’s sultry hedonism will float you away from ‘first world problems’.
Had there been a base of zero for ‘Overgrown’ to go off, then this would be an accomplished album; as a follow-up to an acclaimed debut however, it feels we’ve lost some of that ‘Blake’ that made us sit up and listen in the first place.
The past week has contained a fairly mammoth few days for Daft Punk and Mr Pharrell Williams. It seems the whole world is buzzing with excitement for the release of their new album ‘Random Access Memories’, and when new single ‘Get Lucky’ was released at just after midnight on Friday, it shot to number one in 46 countries! Not only that, within the first 12 hours it also set iTunes and Spotify records too!
Whilst it’s not the most riveting of performances, Pharrell took to the stage as part of an HTC One event last night to air the first live showing of the lead album track.

Just when we thought that Ludacris had forgotten his rap roots and turned all teeny-pop (what with his collaborations with Justin Bieber and co), has the ‘Stand Up’ performer returned with something fairly gritty. Featuring Young Jeezy, ‘Raised In The South’ is an angry track that’s there to remind his audience where he came from, and that Luda is back in business.
However, this fails short of any high expectations I had. Gone are the classic ditties along the lines of ‘Stand Up’, ‘Southern Fried Intro’ and ‘B R Right’; instead they’ve been replaced by a fairly convulsed and ferocious track that really doesn’t make any sense.
Sorry Luda, back to the drawing board on this one I’m afraid. Take a listen for yourself and let us know your views:
You remember Vince Kidd, right? You know, the guy who did that brilliant Madonna rendition on last year’s ‘The Voice’ and got picked by Jessie J?
nope?
Ok ok, then you MUST have heard his brilliant debut ‘Sick Love’ featuring Lady Leshurr, right?
Yep, THAT guy. Well whilst that debut was absolute class (and I think the first ‘reality music contestant single’ that I’ve ever purchased), and he’s followed it up with another belter in ‘The Zoo’.
The track, featuring Vanessa White from The Saturdays, has a slightly frustrating opener (I was concerned it was going down the ‘Guetta-esque’ route), but when it gets to the chorus, well, wow!
I love it. It’s catchy as fuck and definitely will be a fixture this summer.

British dance group Disclosure have been making massive headlines over the past 6 months or so, and it’s for good reason. Pretty much every track they’ve produced has been masterful, and has been a smash with the UK public too. From their incredible ‘Latch’ (featuring the enchanting vocals of Sam Smith), to ‘White Noise’ with blog favourites AlunaGeorge, Disclosure’s batteries don’t seem anywhere near flat yet!
Tonight, on Annie Mac’s BBC show, the quartet gave the world premiere of their new track ‘You and Me’, featuring British vocalist Eliza Doolittle. Representing an old-school UK garage vibe, this track will be massive!
