Last night, whilst others entering the O2 peninsula were thanking their lucky stars for Beyonce tickets, we were inside The IndigO2 where we felt lucky enough to be graced by some of the best in UK urban talent.

Hosted by SBTV’s Aaron Roach Bridgeman, Musicalize showcased a selection of both rising stars as well as established artists to an excitable crowd of music fans as well as industry folk.

Kendrick Lamar and Emeli Sande perform unique twist of ‘Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe’

US rapper Kendrick Lamar treated fans to a special performance of his hit Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe on Friday evening, by bringing on Scottish singer Emeli Sande to take the helm.

The performance at the Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn was part of an album set, whilst Lamar surprised audiences when Sande came out to perform an unique twist on his hit record, featuring an unheard opening verse by the singer.

It’s a fantastic performance and showcases how both talents, from totally different spheres of ‘urban’, work together harmoniously.

Lauryn Hill premieres new track ‘Neurotic Society’

Following Lauryn Hill’s announcement of her return to music last week, the singer has unveiled her first piece of new solo work since 2010’s Repercussions with Neurotic Society.

Subtly dubbed ‘Compulsory Mix‘, the track propels the singer back to her hip-hop roots and goes some way to show how strong her emcee skills actually are.

The track, which was quietly added onto iTunes by her label, was clearly more of a ‘get out of contract’ release vs one that had been fully planned, with Hill taking to her Tumbler page saying”

Here is a link to a piece that I was ‘required’ to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline…. I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music… but the message is still there. In light of Wednesday’s tragic loss (of former label mate Chris Kelly), I am even more pressed to YELL this to a multitude that may not understand the cost of allowing today’s unhealthy paradigms to remain unchecked!

Ok, we’re a bit late to the game in this one, and in fairness, completely baffled on HOW THE HELL WE MISSED THIS!

A couple of weeks back, Daft Punk took to Saturday Night Live to show off their second Pharrell & Nile Rodgers collaboration Lose Yourself To Dance.

Like any of this needs any introduction, but in case you’ve been living under a rock, Lose Yourself To Dance is taken off the French duo’s forthcoming album Random Access Memories.

The beat sounds fantastic; I reckon it went under our radar due to the excitement of Get Lucky, but here’s 15 seconds of audio pleasure for you anyhow. Check out Lose Yourself To Dance below:

Lily Allen to work with Naughty Boy on new album

If rumours are to be believed, Lily Allen has enlisted Naughty Boy to serve as executive producer on her forthcoming album, the follow-up to 2009’s acclaimed LP It’s Not Me, It’s You.

If true, it will certainly be a strong move for Allen (who now goes by her married name Lily Rose Cooper) – the producer’s strong discography includes Emeli Sande as well as MutyaKeishaSiobhan.

According to the Hamada Mania Music Blog, other musicians backing Cooper on the new collection are Greg Kurstin (Sophie Ellis Bextor, Marina and the Diamonds), Karen Poole (Olly Murs, Will Young) and Lucas Secon (Natasha Bedingfield, Christina Aguilera).

Dizzee Rascal and Robbie Williams announce collaboration

Following on from revealing his new track H Town, Dizzee Rascal has confirmed that his next single will feature a collaboration with Robbie Williams.

The new single, entitled Goin’ Crazy is expected to have its first airing in the UK next Friday (10th May), with the video premiere also following later in the day.

The track will debut May 10 at 8.15am (BST) on various UK radio stations, with the video premiering on the same day at 9am.

Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman dies aged 49

Guitarist and founding member of US thrash metal band Slayer Jeff Hanneman has died of liver failure, his record label have announced.

Of Hanneman’s passing, the band’s publicist said:

Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. He was 49. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Spanning a career of over 25 years, Slayer’s unique style and original compositions earned them high credibility within the industry, and were often known as one of the ‘big 4’ thrash metal bands, alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax.

Alicia Keys finally breaks cover with ‘New Day’ video

After premiering (yet bizarrely not releasing) the track almost a year ago, Alicia Keys has finally unveiled the video for her latest single New Day.

The drum-heavy track features Keys primarily in party mode, and is definitely a track for the summer. However, whilst the track is potentially a strong contented for the Top 10, Keys seems to have shunned the fantastically simple, yet effective, styles of music which allowed her to break onto the scene in 2001 with Songs In A Minor.

New Day is featured on Keys’ current long-player Girl On Fire and can be purchased here.
