With more and more record-breaking stats starting to make their way in, it seems that Adele’s 25, the singer’s anticipated third album, has quickly become a phenomena, in the short-term at least.
According to Music Week, 25, which was released just four days ago (Friday 20th November), is continuing to shift in massive numbers, out-selling the rest of the UK’s Top 200 albums…. combined!!
Utilising the data in today’s recently-revealed Midweek Charts, Music Week have confirmed that Adele had shifted over 1/2 million copies of 25 up until midnight Sunday – 537,575 to be exact. Excluding the current No.1, the rest of the Top 200 reaches a combined sales-total of 423,304.
Not only is there a margin of over 100,000 there, 25 has now become the second fastest-selling album in UK chart history, falling just behind Oasis’ Be Here Now (the latter sold 696k copies back in 1997). However, Oasis’ accolade utilises a full-week’s worth of sales; should Adele sell a further 160k (or so) copies by Thursday, it will knock the 18 year-old accolade away from Oasis’ hands.
Turns out not allowing fans to stream 25 on the likes of Spotify or Apple Music has paid off, then!
