Still riding off the back of the global success of his new album Uptown Special, Mark Ronson has taken a back seat of promo, instead turning his attention to remixing Duke Dumont’s The Giver (Reprise).
Premiered by 1Xtra’s MistaJam, Ronson’s rendition of the track is part of an agreement between the Uptown Funk producer and Dumont, with Duke remixing Mark’s forthcoming single I Can’t Lose as a contra-deal.
Speaking to Esquire last week, Ronson said that he chose to remix The Giver as the original “made [him] like house music again”. “I’m trying to change the harmonic structure” said Ronson, “Otherwise, all I’ll end up doing is making a groovier version with his original chords. I’m thinking: who are those group of DJs who wouldn’t play the original? Trevor Nelson, Benji B, those soul boys. But, really, the first thing is throwing shit at the wall until you find something that feels good.”
Fair enough then!
Take a listen to Mark Ronson’s The Giver remix below; it’s a departure from the dancefloor-ready original, however no-less just as good:
