Lily Allen defends new ‘Hard Out Here’ video against possible racism

Lily Allen has hit back at critics and naysayers regarding possible racism in the video for her new single Hard Out Here.

The video, premiered yesterday, was met, along with the track itself, with some strong thumbs-up by the online community (us, included!), however many started to question Allen’s selection of co-stars in the NSFW visual, arguing that the singer has stepped close to racism in her casting.

Today, Lily Allen took to Twitter to vent her frustrations of these remarks. Check out her response, along with the new video for Hard Out Here, below:

Privilege,Superiority and Misconceptions

1. If anyone thinks for a second that I requested specific ethnicities for the video, they’re wrong.

2. If anyone thinks that after asking the girls to audition, I was going to send any of them away because of the colour of their skin, they’re wrong.

3. The message is clear. Whilst I don’t want to offend anyone. I do strive to provoke thought and conversation. The video is meant to be a lighthearted satirical video that deals with objectification of women within modern pop culture. It has nothing to do with race, at all.

4. If I could dance like the ladies can, it would have been my arse on your screens; I actually rehearsed for two weeks trying to perfect my twerk, but failed miserably. If I was a little braver, I would have been wearing a bikini too, but I do not and I have chronic cellulite, which nobody wants to see. What I’m trying to say is that me being covered up has nothing to do with me wanting to disassociate myself from the girls, it has more to do with my own insecurities and I just wanted to feel as comfortable as possible on the shoot day.

5. I’m not going to apologise because I think that would imply that I’m guilty of something, but I promise you this, in no way do I feel superior to anyone, except paedophiles, rapists murderers etc., and I would not only be surprised but deeply saddened if I thought anyone came away from that video feeling taken advantage of,or compromised in any way.

Ellie Goulding has premiered the full version of her new track Mirror, taken from the forthcoming Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack.

The unveiling of the track follows in the footsteps of Lorde and The Weeknd, whose involvement in the movies soundtrack have also been premiered within the past 24 hours.

Eagle-eyed Ellie Goulding fans would have already heard the leaked teasers of Mirror, however the full track is pure Goulding, fusing chilled futuristic dubstep with a haunting backdrop. Wonderful! It’ll whisk you away to another world!

There’s no stopping US production duo The Chainsmokers. Regular readers to Stagedoor FM will no doubt be well acquainted; after some fantastic remixes of BANKS’ Change along with The Wanted’s We Own The Night, the twosome are back with a wonderful take on Mikky Ekko’s summer hit Kids.

Speaking of the new remix, The Chainsmokers said, “Mikky is an absurdly talented writer and vocalist so when we had the chance to work on a track of his we were delighted because we feel he is this perfect blend of pop/mainstream and indie which is two qualities we hold more dear to us than anything. Between his really unique voice and its styling which is something we care a lot about and and our style of producing we though we could create a really interesting remix that embodies are tastes… When we started producing the song we gravitated towards the more progressive sound, flush with big synths but wanted to pair it with a sweeping horn over the drop to give it this really grand almost orchestra feeling that gave it a unique feeling, almost cinematic in nature. In doing so it allowed us to maintain a high energy remix but maintain a unique undertone. In the end his rhythmic vocals along with the piano chords allows the tracks to cruise along effortlessly.”

New music: Lorde – ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’

2013 New Zealand phenomenon Lorde has premiered her Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack inclusion, Everybody Wants To Rule The World.

The track, a reworking of Tears for Fears’ 1985 hit of the same name, sees the singer put her alternative gothic spin on the otherwise upbeat audio. Creepy stuff!

Lorde’s version of Everybody Wants To Rule The World adds to the already-impressive songs we’ve heard so far off the new Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack, which also features the likes of Coldplay, Sia, Christina Aguilera, The Weeknd and many more.

New music: Lily Allen – ‘Hard Out Here’

Lily Allen has unveiled the video premiere to her new single Hard Out Here.

The track, widely expected to appear on the star’s forthcoming album due next year, is Allen’s first official single release since 2009’s Who’d Have Known, taken from No 1 album It’s Not Me, It’s You.

The singer teased the announcement of new music only earlier today, driving fans to her new website through a series of clues, whilst again taking to Twitter to confirm the release of new music.

Allen is currently riding high thanks to her involvement in John Lewis’ heartwarming new Christmas TV advert, dubbed ‘The Bear and The Hare’ after covering Keane’s hit <strong>Somewhere Only We Know for the soundtrack.
