One Direction grab fastest-selling album of 2013 with ‘Midnight Memories’

One Direction’s new album Midnight Memories has earned the band several accolades this week; not only content with hitting the top spot on this week’s Official UK Album Chart, announced today, the new LP also serves as the group’s fastest-selling album, along with the overall fastest selling album of 2013.

The album, the group’s third, sold a staggering 237,000 copies in its first week on UK sale, eclipsing their previous effort Up All Night by 82,000. The year’s previous fastest-seller was Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, released earlier this year.

The British five-piece’s new entry into the charts beat Gary Barlow’s latest effort Since I Saw You Last from entering the top spot, which arrived at a not-too-shabby second place, whilst bandmate Robbie Williams’ latest solo effort Swings Both Ways drops to third place. Olly Murs’ recent promotion has helped Right Place Right Time climb from out the Top 40, to fourth, whilst Eminem’s latest masterpiece The Marshall Mathers LP 2 completes the Top 5.

Bad news falls on Lady Gaga though, whose latest effort ARTPOP has dropped out the Top 20 entirely, falling to 24, whilst James Arthur’s recent controversial statements has harmed his self-titled debut album, which is sitting just in the top 20 at 18.

Reports: Robbie Williams & Olly Murs sign up to judge X Factor 2014

Reports have reached us that Take That star (and multi-award winner) Robbie Williams is to join forces with pal Olly Murs to join the X Factor UK’s 2014 judging panel.

According to website Holy Moly (whose relationship with the show can be deemed as fairly strong and therefore somewhat reliable), the two singers have apparently signed on the dotted line.

With all the current judges (Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Gary Barlow) confirmed to be departing after the series ends, Williams and Murs’ inclusion leave two seats remaining on the panel. If rumours are to be believed, it’s understood that both Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole could be ready to reprise their original roles, completing the full line-up.

R Kelly’s eagerly-awaited new album Black Panties, has appeared online.

Set for release on 10th December, the album, Kellz’s twelfth studio recording, is the R&B star’s first release under new label RCA Records. On first listen, we’re already impressed with the new effort (review coming soon), and featuring collaborations with 2 Chainz, Ludacris and Kelly Rowland, amongst others, Black Panties could well be shaping up to be one of the finest recordings by the crooner.

‘Fast and the Furious’ actor Paul Walker killed in car crash

Breaking news has reached us that actor Paul Walker, best known for movie series The Fast And The Furious, has been killed in a car accident. Walker was 40.

According to celebrity news site TMZ who first broke the story, Walker died Saturday afternoon after a single-car accident and explosion in Southern California. The driver of the car Walker was a passenger in ‘somehow lost control and slammed into a post or a tree … and then the car burst into flames.’

Rare footage has been unveiled of the post-crash scene (below); please note it’s fairly harrowing.

As many will recall, Eminem visited BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe earlier this month, for an honest, open and frank interview covering every aspect of the modern-day rapper, including further insight to the work surrounding his current acclaimed album The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

During the unveiling of the interview, Radio 1 also premiered two clips from a special one-off ‘Maida Vale Session’ with the rapper, where he performed astonishingly-brilliant renditions of Stan and Berzerk. Well now, the UK radio station have shared the final two pieces of footage from the performance, where Eminem performs Recovery lead single Not Afraid, along with Survival, taken from MMLP2.

New music: Lil Kim – ‘I Am Kimmy Blanco’

US femcee Lil Kim has unveiled a new track, I Am Kimmy Blanco. The track, taken from her new mixtape Hard Core 2K13 (which was meant to be released yesterday), sees Kim re-releasing her aggressive side, something that’s been absent from a lot of her most ‘recent’ work.

Hard Core 2K13 is the follow-up to Kim’s 1996 debut album, and is set to feature appearances by Miley Cyrus, French Montana, Jadakiss and Yo Gotti. Kim recently revealed the artwork and track listing for the new release (below), however at this stage it’s still uncertain as to when it’s set to land.

BREAKING NEWS: Professor Green arrested

Breaking news reaches us that chart-topping star Professor Green has been arrested.

The rapper, who recently celebrated his 30th birthday on Wednesday, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

According to reports, police officers had initially attended a scene on November 3rd in Lewisham following reports that a man had been robbed, however upon closer inspection, it seemed that the star’s car had been involved in a crash, and then arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

The star’s official arrest, which has only just been announced, happened again on Monday, with a Met Police spokesman saying “A 29-year-old man was arrested on Monday, November 25, on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice after reporting for bail at a southeast London police station….. “He has been bailed to a date in January pending further enquiries.”

Perverting the course of justice can lead to up to a life imprisonment.
