Lost Village announce 2019 lineup, ft Maribou State, Little Dragon and more

Maribou State and Little Dragon have been announced as headliners for 2019’s return of Lost Village.

Set to return across the 22-25 August weekend, the Lincolnshire festival will also see the likes of Richie Hawtin, Bicep and Omar S hit up the main-stage, with additional highlights including Jayda G, George Fitzgerald, Todd Terje, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Hunee alongside legacy trailblazers Norman Jay, Greg Wilson and Todd Edwards. Superorganism and Inner City will also be gracing the landscape.

Further music acts, alongside listings for LV’s food, wellness and comedy areas are expected to be announced in the coming months; in the meantime check the first wave of names below. Tickets are available now via the Lost Village website.

Watch RITUAL and Tove Stryke’s trippy new video for ‘Love Me Back’

Having written Dua Lipa’s ‘Hotter Than Hell’, whilst also working alongside the likes of Rita Ora, Grace Carter, and Little Mix, it’s clear from the offset that London-based collective RITUAL are a force to reckon with. Their debut album ‘No Escape Out Of Time’ still has the odd belter, however we’re now in 2019 and the trio are about to ready up their next project, ‘Dreamers Never Learn’.

A collaborative effort with some of the biggest female artists out there (including Rita Ora, Dua Lipa and Emily Warren), the new record comes preceded by the excellent ‘Love Me Back’, which features Swedish popstar Tove Stryke.

Noel Gallagher, George Ezra & Biffy Clyro to headline Isle of Wight 2019

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will join Biffy Clyro and George Ezra to headline this summer’s Isle of Wight Festival, organisers have confirmed.

Appearing alongside the first wave of names, Gallagher’s current band will return to the festival for the first time since 2012, and will see them heading up the Friday night. Meanwhile Ezra will take to the mainstage on Saturday 15th June – his first UK festival headline performance – whilst Biffy Clyro will close the festival weekend on the Sunday.

Additional names include Anne-Marie, Lily Allen, Madness, Sigrid and Richard Ashcroft. Hacienda Classical will return for the second year running following their thrilling debut appearance last year.

Bonobo has shared ‘Ibrik’, his first taste of new music since 2017’s Grammy-nominated ‘Migration’.

Premiered as Annie Mac’s latest BBC Radio 1 ‘Hottest Record’, the song is posed as the lead track to a new Fabric mix, due out later this year.

Relive The 1975’s O2 Arena show in its entirety

Over the weekend, The 1975 marked their return to London by performing a handful of shows at the capital’s O2 Arena.

Covering songs spanning their first two records, alongside their acclaimed third studio project ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’), the four-piece’s nigh-on-two-hour set delivered a thrilling example as to why they’re worthy of a headline slot at pretty much any global festival. The staging was immaculate, with inventive production helping to gloriously mimic their various visuals over the past few years (including a sideways travellator that helped Matty replicate the band’s now-synonymous ‘Sincerity Is Scary’ clip).

If you missed out, someone managed to stay pretty still to capture the whole concert in its entirety. God knows how long it’ll stay online for, but if you’re interested in seeing a band still on its way up (and put even the biggest popstars to shame), then sit back and catch the full show below:

Kanye West has debuted his unreleased new song ‘We’ll Find A Way’, expected to appear on his forthcoming album ‘YANDHI’.

Premiered at his latest Sunday Service (cited as “an inspirational jam session that features choir renditions of classic Kanye songs”), the soulful ‘We’ll Find A Way’ was performed alongside Kanye’s choir, alongside a gorgeous opener of Michael Jackson’s ‘Will You Be There’. During the event, Kanye also joined the choir to interpret ‘Ghost Town’ off last year’s ‘Ye’ LP.

When Jack Back released ‘(It Happens) Sometimes‘ late last year, he broke waves in the dance music world, as it was revealed the alias was David Guetta returning to his underground house music roots.

Taking full advantage of the musical freedom his pseudonym offered, Guetta created a thunderous record, with an infectious 4/4 groove and powerful vocal. Now, world-class producers David Penn and OFFAIAH have stepped up for remixing duties – Spanish producer and label boss Penn brings his signature rolling house style to the track, with a dominant piano riff and heavy bassline, a style that won him a Beatport #1 with huge record ‘Nobody’ in 2018. Next up, OFFAIAH brings his own sound, delivering a rough and ready club cut with real intensity, exhibiting his big, bass-driven signature that was seen in smash hits like ‘Push Pull’ and ‘Work It Out’ last year.

21 year-old Amber-Simone has shared her uplifting new single, ‘Only You’.

Lifted from her upcoming ‘For Those Moments’ EP, the feel-good song draws from a wide-ranging palette of influences including funk, soul and electronica, ‘Only You’ follows the release of the exceptional ‘Strawberry Kisses’, which came out late last year.

Recently picked by Annie Mac as a ‘New Name’ for 2019, Amber-Simone has been singing since she was 16, Amber’s vocal sound is unique and powerful, citing Millie Womack and Michael Jackson among her influences. Growing up in east London and then moving to Hertfordshire in her early teens, Amber listened to funk and soul music throughout her childhood, a sound which has very much impacted her own music, along with her discovery of indie electronica, artists such as Niki and the Dove and Metronomy, and 80’s film scores. In addition to her own material, Amber’s had a writing cut on the Aquilo album as well as writing with the likes of Shy Luv, Franc Moody, Phairo and Joe Hertz and joined Franc Moody on their recent arena tour supporting Nile Rodgers & Chic.

Glastonbury Festival announces Emerging Talent Competition 2019

Glastonbury Festival organisers have announced the return of their annual Emerging Talent Competition for 2019.

Supported in conjunction with PRS for Music and the PRS Foundation, the competition gives new UK and Ireland-based acts of any musical genre the opportunity to compete for a slot on one of the main stages at this year’s festival.

The winners of the free-to-enter competition will also be awarded a £5,000 Talent Development prize from PRS Foundation to help take their songwriting and performing to the next level. Two runners-up will also each be awarded a £2,500 PRS Foundation Talent Development prize.

Many previous ETC winners have continued on to great success – 2015’s Declan McKenna and 2014’s Izzy Bizu have both released their own albums with having sold-out tours. Whilst 2017’s winner Josh Barry has since toured with Rag’n’Bone Man and Gorgon City and is due to release his debut album this year.

To enter, acts will need to supply a link to one original song on SoundCloud, plus a link to a video of themselves performing live. A panel will then help compile a longlist of 90 acts, itself which will then be narrowed down to a shortlist of eight artists by judges (including Glastonbury organisers Michael and Emily Eavis). The live finals will take place in Pilton in April where the winning act will be announced. For the past four competitions, all eight of the finalists were offered slots at that year’s Festival.

“After our year off, we can’t wait to hear the latest crop of undiscovered music that’s out there” says Glastonbury’s Emily Eavis – “new music is hugely important to what this Festival is about, and the Emerging Talent Competition has helped us to unearth so many incredible artists from across the genres. Bring on the entries!”

The window for the 2019 Emerging Talent Competition opens on Monday 28th January, and closes at 5pm 4th February. Those who wish to enter can head over to Glastonbury’s ETC page for more info.

Hackney titans Wiley and Stefflon Don have teamed up with Sean Paul and Idris Elba for the remix of last summer’s ‘Boasty’

Produced by Toddla T alongside Rotterdam’s Mucky, the carnival-tinged banger sees the Godfather’s laid back flow offset with stripped-back blocky beats. The track received its premiered by DJ Target last night (21st January).
