Listen: Shift K3Y – ‘Only You’

After closing last year with a 12-piece orchestral takeover at Croydon’s Boxpark, Shift K3Y has kicked off 2018 with his long-overdue return to the music scene.

Sharing new song Only You earlier this week (and premiered across the airwaves as Mistajam’s latest 1Xtra ‘Jam Hot’), the track hears Shift K3Y take both production and vocal duties, akin to earlier singles Touch and I Know.

“Only You is a tongue in cheek, passionate track combining all the influences that make me the musician that I am” he says, adding I wanted to combine the love I have for RnB and Funk instrumentation from the 80s and 90s, with the sounds that I am playing within my sets”.

Having spent the summer supporting London Grammar on their recent sold-out tour, (whilst growing their fanbase as a consequence), it’s safe to say 2017 was a pretty decent year for emerging trio Lo Moon. However 2018 looks set to come up trumps for the LA-based group as they gear up for the release of their long-awaited self-titled debut album.

Set to land next month, the announcement of the new record coincides with the release of the project’s fourth single Real Love, a track which seems the perfect follow-up to their excellent This Is It.

Hear Jorja Smith and Stormzy collaborate on ‘Let Me Down’

It’s been more than a minute, but finally Jorja Smith and Stormzy’s long-awaited collaboration Let Me Down has landed.

The stripped-back joint, which premiered on Apple’s Beats 1, hears the duo sing about troubling times that often plague relationships, and comes almost two years after the first verse was originally penned – “[Stormzy] hit me up after “Blue Lights” and then, that was 2016, and then I was in the studio with Ed and he came through to the session, but I had already wrote the beginning of it and then we just left verse 2. Stormzy was so late, so late. But it was cool because his verse made up for it and he is sick, it just made sense and it worked.”

Disclosure and Rudimental’s Wild Life Festival to break for 2018

Disclosure have confirmed that their annual Wild Life Festival will be taking a break for 2018 as they look to concentrate on their forthcoming third studio album.

Wild Life, a collaboration between Disclosure and Rudimental, first opened its gates in 2015, and since then has seen both groups take headline duties alongside the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Fatboy Slim and more. It quickly became a staple in the annual summer festival calendar, however now it seems that we’ll have to wait until 2019 before hitting the south coast again.

In a post on their Facebook page, Guy and Howard Lawrence said:

“…with a busy recording schedule ahead as we embark on album number 3 we’re going to give the green grass of Shoreham Airport a break throughout 2018 and come back bigger and better in 2019. Thanks to everyone who attended the festival these last three years and gave us some of the best times we’ve ever had as Disclosure, we’re hugely thankful for the opportunity to share that with you, see you all soon.”

Wild Life isn’t the only festival absent from this year’s scene. Secret Garden Party held its final soiree last July, whilst Glastonbury will take its regular fallow year this summer, returning back in June 2019.

Next month will see Radio 1’s Annie Mac kick off the first instalment of her AMP Sounds for the year, taking over multiple London venues for what’s set to be nine nights of stupidly raucous fun (if you’ve been to an AMP night before, you’d absolutely be in agreement!).

Showcasing the multi-faceted sides of Annie’s AMP live brand, from the Annie Mac Presents club nights, all the way to her AMP Collected shows, February’s AMP Sounds will see four consecutive weekends of fun scattered across Camden’s KOKO alongside the town’s prestigious Jazz Cafe.

AMP Sounds at KOKO, which covers February 2nd, 10th, 17th and 23rd, will feature appearances from Annie across every weekend, plus additional sets from the likes of Monki, Mella Dee, the House Gospel Choir and MC Serious (among others). What’s more, we’re massively hyped to tell you that we’ve hooked up with AMP’s promoters to offer you guys the chance of winning tickets too!

Jack White announces new album & shares two new songs. Listen

Jack White has released two new songs, alongside announced his anticipated third studio album Boarding House Reach.

Sharing new tracks Connected by Love and Respect Commander, the former was the first song recorded for the new project, and features White on vocals, synth, and acoustic guitar, whilst backed by a new lineup of musicians that includes drummer Louis Cato (Beyoncé, Q-Tip, John Legend), bassist Charlotte Kemp Muhl (The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger), synth-player DJ Harrison, keyboardist Neal Evans (Soulive, Talib Kweli, John Scofield), percussionist Bobby Allende (David Byrne), and backing vocalists Ann & Regina McCrary of Nashville’s beloved gospel trio, The McCrary Sisters.

White will celebrate BOARDING HOUSE REACH with a number of just announced headline festival performances, including Shaky Knees in Atlanta (May 4th-6th), Boston Calling 2018 (May 25th-27th), and Governor’s Ball in New York (June 1st-3rd). Additional dates will be unveiled soon.

Foo Fighters confirmed for BRITs 2018 performance

Foo Fighters have been announced as the latest act to perform at next month’s BRIT Awards.

Confirmed moments ago, the four-time BRIT winners will make their debut on 21st February, alongside previously-announced performers Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Stormzy and Dua Lipa.

Of the news, BRITs Chairman & CEO and Chairman of Sony Music UK & Ireland Jason Iley said: “Anyone who was lucky enough to witness one of their shows on the recent sold out UK tour, or their set at Glastonbury – which was undoubtedly one of the best performances the festival has ever seen and a night that will be talked about forever – will know why Foo Fighters are the biggest and most exciting rock band in the world. Quite remarkably they have never performed at The BRITs, so I am over the moon to confirm a massive BRITs exclusive to have them grace our stage.”

The group’s appointment also comes six months since the release of their acclaimed ninth studio album Concrete and Gold – the BRITs nominations show this Saturday (13th January) will also reveal whether the project is in line for the Best Album gong for 2018.

It’s been eight years since Black Eyed Peas released an album, and today they return, back as a trio, with their new single Street Livin’.

With social conscience at its heart, the track hears will.i.am, apl.de.ap, and Taboo tackle multiple topics, including gun violence, police brutality and more, in a song that packs more than a few punches.

It’s yet to be confirmed if Street Livin’ paves the way for even more new music, or if it’s a one-off cut, but in the meantime, take note of the video below:

Move aside MØ; Denmark has a new wonderkid to start shouting about. Newcomer Soleima may have only recently shared her debut project No. 14, but one listen to the tonality of her voice, you’d have thought she’d been in the industry for years, particularly when it comes to her dreamy new single Low Life.

Bluntly-put, if this was named one of “2018’s Best Pop Singles” by the time the year closed out we wouldn’t be surprised… and it’s still only January! Delivered over a distorted synth-led beat, Low Life throws away any kind of signature pop-led urgency, instead giving us an element of infectiousness coupled with accentuated soft stabs which grow effortless toward a simply wonderful chorus.
