Haim cover The Strokes’ ‘I’ll Try Anything Once’

Indie/pop band Haim have unveiled their cover of The Strokes’ ‘I’ll Try Anything Once’, originally released as a B-side in 2006. The US trio premiered their cover of the track during a session for Sirius XMU last month

This is not the first Strokes cover that has been rehashed in the past few weeks; female femmcee Azealia Banks surprisingly dropped her version of ‘Barely Legal’ just over a month back, to global acclaim.

Producer-of-the-moment Duke Dumont also premiered his version of Haim’s ‘Falling’ just over a couple of weeks too – check it out below in case you missed it. Though the band have been together since 2006, it seems that now we’re entering 2013, the onslaught of new music will propel them into global awareness.

Band hijacks Google Streetview for new music video

A US band has become the first group to use Google’s Streetview service for its entire new video.

The redneck country band Gunnar & The Grizzly Boys ambushed the location of their nearest Streetview car, whilst staying in front of the camera with the lyrics to song ‘Could Be Me’ captured at every possible moment.

The video could well and truly be a hoax (Google’s privacy and camera technology blocks out faces, and the band members can clearly be seen), but regardless, it’s still a very clever move to generate some big PR.

Monsta release video for storming new single ‘Messiah’

London-based music trio Monsta have unleashed their brilliant new video to the even-more-brilliant new single ‘Messiah’.

The track, the follow up to 2012’s frighteningly amazing ‘Holdin On’ continues the band’s theme of soulfully, dark dubstep/EDM fusion. It’s well worth a watch/listen – check it out below, along with blog-favourite ‘Holdin’ On’.

New Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West & Lil’ Wayne to drop Monday

If strong rumours are to believed, a new track featuring the powerhouses of rap and hip-hop is expected to land this coming Monday.

According to DJ Drama’s twitter feed, the new track, entitled ‘F***** Ya List’ will feature Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem.

 

We mustn’t forget that Monday is also April 1st (April Fools Day), however this isn’t the first time that the artists have been rumoured to be working together. We all know that Jay-Z and Eminem have both been in the studio, and Lil Wayne’s also working on new material, so anything is possible. If, indeed, this is true, we’ll be there to update you all on this exciting proposition.

Legendary record producer Phil Ramone has died, aged 72.

The producer first made his mark in the world of global music at aged 10, playing violin for Queen Elizabeth II. Over the years, his contribution to the music industry spanned everything from TV, concerts, movies and Broadway shows.

The producer’s credits were long and lasting, dating back to the late 1950s. Over the years he worked with a long and diverse list of artists, including Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney, Madonna and Ray Charles. In his lifetime his brilliant work earned him 14 Grammy Awards.

Away from the sound world, his contribution to the music industry still resonated highly; Ramone was one of the key innovators whose work helped CDs replace vinyls as the sole commercial choice for both the consumer and the industry itself.

He will be sorely missed.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs unveil new single ‘Under The Earth’

Adding to the stir of anticipation of imminent new album ‘Mosquito’, US band Yeah Yeah Yeahs have taken to the New York Times to unveil their new single ‘Under The Earth’.

The track, which adds to the momentum of last week’s video release of ‘Sacrilege’, features a fairly ‘curious’ synth overtone, though this is something that’s clearly become synonymous within many of the group’s track history.

Rihanna – ‘Stay’ (Branchez Remix)

Ok, so technically this may not be NEW music (it came out just over a month back), however it is new to us, and potentially new to you guys too, hence the post.

New Yorker producer/remixer Branchez has released a wonderfully smooth rework of Rihanna’s Stay, adding his own tasteful spin onto the record, slowing the vocals down slightly whilst underlying the record with a subtle trap beat.

The track oozes chill-out-trap – it’s beautiful and we can’t stop playing it. What’s more it’s available free right here. Check it out below and let us know your thoughts:

Chris Brown wages a new war of words at Drake on ‘RIP’ remix

US radio personality, DJ Drama, took to the airwaves tonight to premier the remix to Young Jeezy’s ‘R.I.P.’, which features Kendrick Lamar, YG and Chris Brown.

During his verse, Brown took the opportunity to open up a war of words against public adversary Drake, singing “And if you started from the bottom gonna come out the closet,”.

Nicki Minaj previews ‘High School’ video with Lil’ Wayne

Nicki-Minaj-lil-Wayne-high-school-setFresh from an almost life-threatening stay in hospital, YMCM rapper Lil’ Wayne has joined forces with Nicki Minaj for their new video ‘High School’.

Whilst the final cut isn’t expected to be revealed until Tuesday, Miss Minaj has kindly shared a preview clip to whet fans’ appetites. The video of the track, taken from Minaj’s album ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’, shows Nicki descending the stairs of a swanky mansion, lounging by the pool and strolling through manicured gardens on a perfect California afternoon.
