Wireless Festival announce ‘Wireless Connect’ 360 VR weekender

Following the cancellation of this year’s event due to ongoing concerns of the global Coronavirus pandemic, Wireless Festival organisers have announced details of their first ever Wireless Connect.

Set to take place on Wireless’ existing weekend (3rd-5th July), Connect will take place in partnership with MelodyVR who successfully broadcasted last year’s event in virtual reality.

The full line-up for 2020’s Wireless Connect is still under wraps, but performances will be broadcast from MelodyVR’s new studios in Los Angeles and London’s Alexandra Palace. Fans can use their phones or Oculus devices to watch the festival.

MelodyVR CEO Anthony Matchett said of the new announcement – “This ground-breaking partnership will see a first-of-its-kind festival brought directly to fans homes. Given the current climate and restrictions on mass-gatherings, we’re thrilled to be expanding on our partnership with Festival Republic, to deliver an amazing festival experience between 3rd-5th July. Even though we can’t be together in person, by utilising our unique technology and production studios, the show will go on.”

Festival Republic MD Melvin Benn added “There’s no more forward-thinking festival than Wireless, and there’s no more forward-thinking way of hosting a festival than in 360 VR… We’ll be filming artists in MelodyVR’s amazing studio space in LA, built just for this purpose, and in the historic theatre at Ally Pally, which MelodyVR will turn into Wireless Connect. No one has done this before…”

Wireless 2020 was expected to feature headline appearances from A$AP Rocky, Skepta and Meek Mill. Check the teaser below – more to follow. You can download the MelodyVR app here (iOS / Android):
