Glastonbury Festival 2020 officially cancelled

Glastonbury Festival’s 50th anniversary celebrations have been officially postponed following the global coronavirus outbreak.

Last week, organisers revealed the first batch of names for 2020’s festival, with Emily Eavis citing worry about the uncertain situation – “As things stand we are still working hard to deliver our 50th anniversary Festival in June”.

The announcement of this year’s cancellation means that anniversary celebrations will now take place in 2021. A delay until later this year was likely unworkable due to the logistics of Glastonbury’s home also being a fully-working farm.

The current global situation has meant a potential lack of medical staff and police support onsite, both large reasons for Glastonbury to change course.

2020 tickets will be valid for 2021. It’s not yet confirmed whether headliners Kendrick Lamar, Sir Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift will be returning in the same slots for the new date.
