Hear The 1975’s new single, ‘People’

Fans of The 1975 will be well-acquainted with the band’s instrumental self-titled opener – a short piece that has morphed through multiple iterations to kick off every album since their debut.

Last month, the group shared the latest version of the song as a surprise single, teaming up with 16 year-old activist Greta Thunberg for a strong message about climate change. That track itself fired the starting-gun for The 1975’s anticipated fourth album, ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’, and today, Matty and co share the record’s official lead cut, ‘People’.

Premiered as Annie Mac’s latest BBC Radio 1 Hottest Record, ‘People’ precedes The 1975’s headline slot at this weekend’s Reading and Leeds Festival; a performance that’s expected to give additional cues as to the album’s direction ahead of its release in February 2020.

The band had previously teased the record as a celebration of nightlife and club-culture, with inspiration taken from The Streets and MJ Cole – instantly a seeming departure from their past three albums, ‘Notes’ will close the band’s ‘Music For Cars’ era, which started with last year’s ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’.
