Alex Metric has returned to the remix-front, kicking off 2019 with his superb Chic-inspired rework of Parcels’ ‘Lightenup’.
Arriving fresh from his time working alongside Mark Ronson and Diplo’s Silk City project, Metric’s new vision builds on what was already a funk-filled track – the groovy guitar riffs which line Parcels’ original remain, now however paired with an undeniably chunky lead bass. A tight 4/4 beat and perfectly panned percussion lie beautifully over lush pads whilst the vocal is lathered in soft, spatial, euphoric reverb. All in the making for what would’ve been a classic Studio 54 dance floor number.
