Alongside emotional tributes from the likes of Missy Elliott, Elton John, Stevie Wonder Lauren Hill (alongside the rest of the music world), Ariana Grande used her scheduled appearance on The Tonight Show last night to deliver a heartfelt performance in memory of Aretha Franklin who passed away yesterday, aged 76.
Joined alongside house band The Roots, Ariana opened Thursday evening’s show with a cover of the Carole King-penned ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’, showcasing her own young talents against Aretha’s 1967 classic.
Stunning as expected, it seems however that the tribute almost failed to happen, with Grande discussing with producers prior to transmission that she was too emotional to perform. She reportedly left the stage in tears after concluding the song.
