Though respected in the genre, Diplo probably sits way way down in the list when it comes to naming hip-hop producers. In fact, he’s never really managed to carve a name for himself outside of the dancehall and clubland scenes, though things are certain to change with the arrival of the Major Lazer-founder’s new ‘California’ EP.
We’ve already heard his brilliant collaborations with DRAM and Lil Yachty & Santigold, however now the full project is out, we thought we’d showcase another solid cut from the collection. ‘Suicidal’ is the second song from the EP, and hears Diplo connect with Desiigner for the first time. ‘Panda’-aside, Desiigner’s vocals and flows seem to work even harder when they appear upon sub-futuretronic beats (last summer’s Mura Masa hook-up on ‘All Around the World’ being a prime example) – ‘Suicidal’ hears the G.O.O.D Music rapper nail it once again. Alongside the rest of ‘California’, this one’s a must-listen:
