Ed Sheeran and Stormzy are truly owning music at the moment, with almost half of the Top 50 tracks on Spotify’s UK Charts devoted to the artists.
As of today (4th March), 22 of the Top 50 songs are either by, or feature, one of the artists. The Top 16 consist of every single track from the Deluxe Edition of Sheeran’s new album Divide, whilst five songs from Stormzy’s Gangs Signs and Prayer also feature. Their recent collaboration on Ed’s Shape Of You caps things off sitting at No.20.
It’s also a similar picture in other services – a combined 21 songs appear within the iTunes Top 50 from a sales perspective, whilst a whopping 31 songs in the Apple Music Top 50 are by both artists too.
Stormzy’s latest release made chart history when it became the first grime album to ever hit No.1 in the UK Album Charts, eclipsing even Dizzee Rascal’s seminal Boy In Da Corner by almost eight copies to one. Based on [very] early streaming figures, it’s likely Ed Sheeran’s Divide will knock Gangs Signs and Prayer off the top of the charts next Friday.
