Glastonbury 2017: Ed Sheeran to headline?

As with every year, the second the Glastonbury Festival gates close, up starts the rumours for the following summer, and today is no different with word starting to circle regarding one of next year’s potential headliners.

Whilst we’d take things with an absolute pinch of salt this early on, The Sun is currently reporting that Ed Sheeran is readying to fulfil his dream of heading up Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage in 2017, as he preps for his return to the scene following a year’s hiatus.

It’s widely-known Ed’s been taking some time away to record his third studio album, the follow-up to 2014’s X, and having championed a triple whammy at Wembley last year, we wouldn’t be surprised if there was some truth in the matter (particularly as The Sun seem to be ‘somewhat’ accurate in their sources – back in 2015 they confirmed Coldplay’s fourth headline outing months before any kind of official announcement).

Sheeran last played Glastonbury in 2014, both as a solo artist and appearing with Rudimental to preview their collaborative effort Bloodstream; whilst back last October, Ed told The Independent his desire to lead the charge as a Glastonbury headliner, saying “The next festival I do will be headlining Glastonbury, but it just won’t be [2016]”
