Glastonbury 2016: Our guide on who you need to see!

Glastonbury 2016 opens its doors in less than a week, and with over 3,000 acts set to appear, there’s a fair few folk out there who are still completely lost on who they should turn their attentions to.

Therefore, to help you guys out, we thought we’d throw together our POVs on the ‘who’s and the what’s’ to check out whilst you’re there, so check them all out in the day-by-day breakdown below.

Oh, and for the newbies who may complain about the “lack of guitar bands”, bear in mind the genres of music Stagedoor FM currently supports 😉

Name: Bonzai
Venue: WOW Stage (Silver Hayes), 20:00
About: One of the most-exciting talents to emerge this year, Dubliner Bonzai’s crafted an unique psychedelic future-focused sound that has helped her win accolades from the likes of Mura Masa, Nao and Annie Mac, amongst others.

 

Name: Mura Masa
Venue: WOW Stage (Silver Hayes), 22:00
About: Another one who’s been smashing things the past year, Mura Masa might simply be the biggest thing to come from Guernsey since, umm, well the last big thing. With a sound that’s akin to Hudson Mohawke on twisted acid, and an impressive collaborations-list from the likes of Nao, Shura and Denai Moore, this dude is definitely one you can’t sleep on.

Name: Annie Mac (Live on BBC Radio 1)
Venue: BBC Introducing (Silver Hayes), 19:00
About: Annie will be broadcasting her mid-week show directly from the BBC Introducing tent. We could already tell you to expect another pretty-dazzling ‘Hottest Record’, but we wouldn’t be surprised if some special guests also came onstage for a quick chat with the DJ too.

Name: Skepta
Venue: Pyramid Stage, 13:45
About: It’s been an explosive twelve months since Skepta’s previous Glastonbury jaunt (he last hit the WOW Stage prior to Kanye’s headline slot in 2015); today though sees the MC upgraded to the Pyramid Stage. With a new album [Konnichiwa] firmly under his belt, plus what seems like the world at his feet, this performance could be very special indeed.

 

Name: NAO
Venue: The Park Stage, 12:15
About: Influenced by 80s funk and 90s R&B, Nao’s fresh approach to the world of future-soul is incredibly-breathtaking. The Londoner always seems right at-ease on the stage, and with a discography and style akin to the likes of Kelis and Jill Scott, we could be witnessing the birth of one of Britain’s biggest female exports in years.

 

Name: Frances
Venue: Pussy Parlour, 16:30
About: Regardless of losing out to Jack Garratt for the 2016 BRITs Critics Choice, it’s still clear that even getting a nomination means you’re onto something special, and Frances certainly hits that nail on its head. Delivering sultry, figurative piano ballads has led her to catch the eye of Disclosure, so much so that the youngster is now signed to their Method Records imprint. Definitely one to check out!

 

Name: Lady Leshurr
Venue: Sonic Stage (Silver Hayes), 20:15
About: Brummie’s finest has been bringing out some absolute stormers over the past year; most-notable being the viral-friendly Queen’s Speech 4, providing Lady Leshurr a platform to deliver her tongue-in-cheek flows to almost sell-out crowds. Expect the Sonic Stage to be pretty-packed on the Friday!

 

Name: Kurupt FM
Venue: Sonic Stage (Silver Hayes), 22:30
About: Kurupt FM need little by way of introduction – all we would say is to expect UKG raving at its finest by Brentford’s biggest underground [and illegal] pirate station. We’ve been to their shows loads of times, so from experience, expect this to get messy.

 

Name: Metamorphosis
Venue: Arcadia, 23:30 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
About: Glastonbury virgins, get yourself to Arcadia’s brand new Metamorphosis show. Previously ‘The Glastonbury Landing Show’, Metamorphosis will give visitors their first glimpse of Arcadia’s giant spider since she gave birth. Maybe not one for mechanical arachnophobes, mind.

 

Name: Kano
Venue: Sonic Stage (Silver Hayes), 23:45
About: If there was ever an award for ‘Greatest Contribution To Grime’, Kano would be head-to-head with Wiley to take home the gong. Seeing as Wiley’s not likely to hit Glasto for a long-time yet, though, we reckon you’d be nuts to miss K-A’s headline performance at Sonic. With five solid albums under his belt, this 100-minute set is likely to be more than spectacular.

Name: Shura
Venue: Other Stage, 12:00
About: Shura officially announced the countdown of her anticipated debut album Nothing’s Real earlier this year, re-releasing 2014’s Touch with a twist surprise-feature from Talib Kweli. Expect her Other Stage debut to give a preview of what’s to come from the record prior to next month’s release.

 

Name: Izzy Bizu
Venue: The Park Stage, 13:00
About: Izzy Bizu marks her third Glastonbury appearance by upgrading to The Park, following her win of 2014’s Emerging Talent Competition. Her debut album lands in September, so her set’s likely to unravel some new material, alongside fan-favourites from Give Me Love to Adam & Eve.

 

Name: Alessia Cara
Venue: John Peel Stage, 13:50
About: 2015’s viral Here gave Alessia Cara a solid launch platform, following up the release with her solid Four Pink Walls EP. Her warm debut album Know-It-All came soon-after, delivering realms of positivity to her fans. She can also hold a note live, too.

 

Name: Lion Babe
Venue: Sonic Stage (Silver Hayes), 14:50
About: Lion Babe finally make their Glastonbury debut after a whirlwind couple of years that saw both Treat Me Like Fire and their Childish Gambino-featuring Jump Hi win them legions of fans across the world. They smashed it again with their debut record Begin at the turn of 2016, and their live shows are not to be missed!

 

Name: Blonde
Venue: Sonic Stage (Silver Hayes), 15:30
About: After initially meeting online, Blonde’s Jake and Adam have been crafting a career that may strike fear into other house duos. Delivering fun, playful and above-all, accessible house music (that works as well on Spotify as it does in the clubs), the lads are ready to take their first Glasto appearance by its horns following what can only be described as a remarkable 12-months.

 

>Name: Snakehips
Venue: Sonic Stage (Silver Hayes), 17:00
About: Snakehips have been mooted as the ‘alternative-Disclosure’ after being able to strip back the dancefloors with their gorgeous and dreamy combination of future-sounding 90s R&B. Whilst the likes of On & On and Days With You set the bar high, it was their Chance The Rapper and Tinashe-featuring All My Friends that made the duo into household names. They smashed their Wild Life set last weekend, and we’d expect them to do the same at Glasto.

 

Name: Adele
Venue: Pyramid Stage, 22:15
About: Probably the one artist that needs no formal introduction! Having had a stellar return to the charts with her third album 25, this year will be the first time the Londoner has graced the Pyramid Stage as a headliner. Whilst might some have cast Adele as ‘boring’ for the headline slot, the thought of 125,000 people singing Someone Like You give us some absolute chills!

Name: Raleigh Ritchie
Venue: Sonic Stage (Silver Hayes), 16:00
About: Raleigh Ritchie (aka Jacob Anderson) returns to Silver Hayes for the second time for 2016. The dude absolutely brings it on his live shows, and we’d expect that energy to return as he showcases joints from his solid debut album You’re A Man Now, Boy.

Name: Hip Hop Karaoke
Venue: Stonebridge, 16:00
About: We’ve been regular visitors to Glastonbury’s Hip Hop Karaoke for the last few years now; it’s just opposite The Park and definitely one for some afternoon hijinks for you and your mates. Highly recommended; oh, and you can check out HHK’s song list here if you want some early pre-Glasto revision.

Name: Tom Misch
Venue: Pussy Parlure (Silver Hayes, 16:45
About: If you need some Sunday downtime, then Tom Misch is your man. Making his Glastonbury debut, Misch is currently prepping the release of next month’s Reverie EP, and with the impressive Beat Tape 2 project still winning accolades, you can be sure that Tom will drift you into a dreamy jazz-enthused soulful headspace as the weekend looks to end.

Name: Craig David’s TS5
Venue: Sonic Stage (Silver Hayes), 19:40
About: Craig David’s had one heck of a resurgence over the past 12 months and today he’ll make his Glastonbury debut, this time with a huge repertoire in tow, and the realisation on how important his UK fanbase is to his. His TS5 shows have been running the scene in Miami – full of life, soul and his infamous MCing, this is likely to be quite special – for us and him!

Name: Earth, Wind & Fire
Venue: West Holts Stage, 21:45
About: What better way to close than one of the most-iconic acts to ever grace the global funk and soul scene. Expect Earth, Wind & Fire to bring their biggest classics to West Holts as we firmly say goodbye to Glastonbury 2016, with a full-on party!
