In a heartfelt open letter earlier today, Sampha thanked those who’d been supporting him throughout the years, signing off that new music was on the horizon. Fast-forward just a few hours, and the South Londoner has indeed kept his promise by sharing Timmy’s Prayer, and boy does it pack more than a few punches?!
Opening as a smooth ballad, the track delivers the kind of explosive urgency that we’ve come to enjoy from Sampha over the years, complete with a chorus that gets directly to the point without any fucking about – “If heaven’s a prison, then I am your prisoner” he bellows.
It’s Sampha’s first piece of solo work since 2013, but now the time seems completely right for his return.
