Glastonbury confirms all-new festival for 2018

Glastonbury curator Emily Eavis has confirmed that organisers are in talks for an all-new event for either 2018 or 2019.

Announcing the new on her official Twitter account earlier today, Eavis said “we’re planning a big event elsewhere for 2018 or 2019 but it hasn’t even got a name yet so watch this space for more info!”, whilst also confirming to BBC News that the new ‘festival’ is “not going to be called Glastonbury”.

When asked about rumours regarding a new location for Glastonbury, Eavis confirmed “The deal on the year off is we’re planning a show – another event – somewhere nearby. It’s either going to be in 2018 or 2019. It’s going to be the whole team behind the Glastonbury Festival but it’s not going to be called Glastonbury. The idea [is to plan] an event which is more of a visual feast, something really spectacular, using all of these incredible creative people that we work with all year. That’s an idea that really excites us.”

In terms of the set-up, music will still be at its heart but there will also be “more, larger-scale installations”, concluding “You know, we work with these artists all year, but we’re always confined by the same hedgerows. The idea of doing it somewhere else, where you’ve got a huge, vast space is hugely exciting.”

Meanwhile, the focus still remains for Glastonbury 2016, which kicks off in a little under 8 weeks; slowly more names have been added to the bill, with The Field Of Avalon’s lineup being confirmed earlier today (featuring Corinne Bailey Rae, Foy Vance and KT Tunstall, amongst others).
