We first cast our ears on Sam Wills last summer thanks to his striking appearance on Tom Misch’s In The Midst Of It All (one of the standouts from the producer’s exemplary Beat Tape 2 project) – since then however, we’ve been salivating as to what’s to come from the Hastings-born musician’s solo work. Fortunately, that day has now arrived as the young 23 year-old hooks up with Karma Kid for So Bright, the title-track from Sam’s upcoming debut EP.
With grooves not far-removed from early Daniel Merriweather (think Chainsaw-era), it seems Wills could be on a positive trajectory into winning over the larger funk-advocating crowds as time continues.
