It was last year that Frank Ocean whipped his fans into a frenzy, by hinting his anticipated new album was to land in July…. the month came and went though, and not only did the record fail to materialise, but the R&B singer ended up becoming more elusive than ever.

However, details have started to seep out regarding the new project, thanks to a recent interview with the album’s producer, Malay. Speaking to Pitchfork, Malay (aka James Ho), who also worked with Ocean on his impressive Channel Orange debut, said that the follow-up will drop “When [Frank’s] ready”, teasing “It could be tomorrow… well not tomorrow but maybe a month….. I’m excited for everyone to hear it. I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised, for sure.”.

Of the singer’s direction, Malay added “Frank’s exploring different vibes completely on this album. I wouldn’t say it’s vocally looser but just his mentality; it doesn’t seem as meticulous at certain times.”

The interview also discusses the producer’s work on Zayn Malik’s new album Mind Of Mine – read the full piece here.
