Glastonbury 2016: Adele confirmed to headline

**UPDATE 31st March: The Metro Newspaper have confirmed that Adele reached out to organisers to enquire about headlining 2016’s event. Michael Eavis told the paper “I met Adele last year and she asked if she could do it”

One of the festival circuit’s worst-kept secrets is out – Adele has been confirmed to headline this summer’s Glastonbury Festival, joining the previously-announced Muse and Coldplay.

Heavily rumoured since Adele announced her return to the music scene with her record-breaking album 25, the singer’s appearance will follow her exhaustive UK & European tour – Adele confirmed the news at her London O2 Arena gig earlier this evening.

Adele had previously expressed fears about headlining such a coveted slot; late last year the artist told Zane Lowe her views, speaking on his Beats 1 show after witnessing Kanye West headline 2015’s event – “When I was there I was like ‘yeah I can do this’. But then when I watched it and I saw that crowd; I wasn’t anywhere near the stage and it was the biggest crowd I’d ever seen” said Adele, adding “I froze with fear, I just thought ‘I don’t know if I can do that'”

Adele first performed at Glastonbury back in 2007, taking to the Guardian tent for a stripped-back acoustic session, over six months prior to the release of her debut album 19.

Glastonbury Festival 2016 runs from 22st-26th June at the site’s home of Somerset’s Worthy Farm – tickets sold out in record-breaking time once again, with further allocations expected in a resale in the spring.
