Industry pays tribute to shock death of Viola Beach and manager Craig Tarry

The music world was shocked this morning following the sudden deaths of emerging Warrington band Viola Beach, alongside their manager Craig Tarry, in a tragic road accident in Stockholm.

The group, who had only recently released their second single Boys That Sing (following their successful debut Swings & Waterslides) were said to be on the tipping-point of a promising career, with many fans showing their appreciation for their set at Leeds Festival last year.

Of the news, the band’s label Communion Records said “Everyone here at Communion is in a state of total shock and sorrow, and our thoughts go out to the families and friends of Craig and the band”. A recent press release has confirmed that proceeds made from Boys That Sing will be donated from the label to the band and Craig’s families.

Various elements of the music industry have also spoken out over the shock – radio plugger Rich Perry said “Purely from a people perspective, we’ve lost 5 great humans. From a professional perspective, rarely have I’m been as sure of a band & manager who felt destined for the big time. Craig, Kris, Riv, Jack & Tom you were my friends. It’s an honour to have spent time with you doing what we all love. RIP”

Meanwhile, SJM Concerts’ Conrad Murray added “[SJM] are devastated by the tragic loss of the lives of Craig, Jack, Kris, Tom & River. They were a truly talented bunch of young men on the cusp of something very special and it was always a pleasure and a genuine thrill to be in their presence”.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to both the band’s families and that of Craig too. You can download Boys That Sing below:
