Wiley continued his onslaught of new music with a twist today, delivering a rehashed version of Step 20, though this time underpinned by a new beat from Zomby.
Now retitled Step 2001, the cut takes things back to the ‘icy’ sound originally championed by Wiley early on in the grime scene – sonics that both the MC and Zomby have been delivering for many years, though bizarrely (or fortunately, depending on the way you look at it), Step 2001 hears the first time the two have actually come together.
Step 2001 received its premiere by Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 show this afternoon; considering the station’s global reach, it’s another piece of ammo for grime’s potential global-takeover.
Cop a listen to Step 2001; the track lands digitally toward the end of next month.
