Watch: Nathan Sykes wows fans at intimate secret gig

Former The Wanted member Nathan Sykes had reason to celebrate yesterday; not only did 5th July mark Sykes’ debut foray into the solo world with the release of his new single Kiss Me Quick, but his inaugural Secret Sykes Show also trended worldwide.

The show, which took place in a private location in London’s Portland Place, saw Nathan showcase some of his all-new material to a guestlist of just 60 fans. Included on the setlist were the aforementioned new single alongside previous grat-track More Than You’ll Ever Know. Midway, Sykes also took the hard task with a surprise cover of John Legend’s iconic Ordinary People – needless to say this went down a storm (and we wouldn’t be surprised if a seal of approval was to soon come from Legend himself).

We’ve previously stated that Stagedoor FM tends to shy away from pop music, however Nathan’s solo course is an intriguing one. Gone are the bubblegum tones, instead replaced with a smooth modern-day interpretation of slick soul. And Nathan’s not just restricting himself to soul music either, telling us exclusively he’s been listening out to what’s happening in the dance sphere. “I love Disclosure’s new track with Gregory Porter [Holding On], and I’m too excited about their new track with Sam Smith” said Sykes, continuing that “an opportunity to work with Disclosure would be fantastic”.

Catch the highlights of last night’s showcase at the top of this post, and stream Kiss Me Quick below; the track’s out now via the iTunes link:
