Glastonbury 2015: The Who to close as final headliner?

Whilst last month’s initial line-up offering kept some fans at bay (prior to the event’s full announcement) the big question still residing over this summer’s Glastonbury Festival remains the closing act on Worthy Farm’s Pyramid Stage.

With Foo Fighters and Kanye West both confirmed (they will headline the Friday and Saturday nights, respectfully), all eyes are now on the final piece of the puzzle – the Sunday night headliner. However, with the rumour mill now at full speed, The Sun newspaper has apparently confirmed it will be The Who, whom will be the mainstage headliners for Glastonbury 2015’s closing show.

According to today’s paper (2nd May), a ‘festival insider’ has told the publication “The Who booking has been kept quiet because the band are also playing a Hyde Park gig for the British Summer Time festival so the announcement will be made in a few weeks”, continuing, “the band are still one of the best live groups and are currently on their 50th-anniversary tour, so it’s bound to be an amazing show…. There’ll also be support from an artist like Paul Weller or Noel Gallagher. It will be a dream night for rock fans.”

The Sun’s article also continues to state that the band are “rearranging a Paris show originally scheduled for that Sunday”.

Whilst we cannot vouch for the article’s legitimacy, 2015 does mark the band’s landmark 50th anniversary, alongside the 40th birthday of the cult movie representation of The Who’s Tommy (the album that preceded the film six years prior). Consequently, we do see some leverage in The Sun’s story.

However, as with previous years, we’d suggest fans remain cautious until we hear the news from the Eavis family who, historically, have always been first to break Glastonbury announcements.

More as we hear it.
