Little may be known of Shamir Bailey over this side of the pond, but with a small (yet albeit impeccable) discography already under his belt, that’s likely to change fairly soon.
As the 20 year-old Las Vegas resident prepares to drop his debut album Ratchet in May, it’s clear from Bailey’s new video for upcoming single Call It Off that not only does he mean business, but his label are 100% ready to plough in the funds (he’s signed to XL Records by the way, so let that help your judgement).
Comically almost a visual follow-up to Ed Sheeran’s Sing, the Call It Off clip sees Shamir, alongside backing-dancers, transformed into puppet-mode as they run amok throughout a clothes shop, then back to the desert where the video opens.
It’s an interesting concept, and with excitement continuing to buzz around the youngster (particularly the vocal comparisons to early-Michael Jackson), it’s likely Call It Off will not be the last you hear of Shamir.
