Once again, British retailer John Lewis have shown why they’re the nation’s favourite, with their new, heartwarming, TV spot for their Christmas campaign.
Featuring a more-modest approach versus last year’s animated short (which saw Lily Allen cover Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know for the soundtrack), the 2014 John Lewis Christmas ad will see toy ‘Monty The Penguin’ take the place of 2013’s Bare and Hare as the lead star, accompanied by his real-life human play-friend Sam.
Meanwhile, the anticipated audio support comes from Tom Odell – a kick in the teeth for NME who famously awarded Odell’s debut album one star (with his father even-more-famously calling the publication to complain). The young Chichester-born artist will be heard covering John Lennon’s lesser-known Real Love (released posthumously in the mid-90s on The Beatles’ Anthology) as the soundtrack.
The full advert is set to have its television premiere this Friday (7th November) on Gogglebox; however as was has become notorious with many advertisers, John Lewis have decided to have the grand unveiling online – hit play below to watch Monty The Penguin’s story unfold.
