On Friday, Scottish electro-pop trio CHVRCHES took to the 2014 Austin City Limits Festival, performing on the coveted mid-afternoon slot on the Honda stage.

Taking the crowd through their huge debut album The Bones of What You Believe, the three-piece also previewed some all-new material, including the imaginatively-titled Richard Pryor. According to various sources, the name is actually a working title for the song, with the trio having performed the track in the past under other various guises, including Eddie Murphy and Gene Wilder.

CHVRCHES member Iain Cook recently shed light on the track’s working title, stating that the group were reluctant “to put out anything [we] aren’t happy with. That could take four months, it could take two years. It’s too early to talk about new songs, because nothing is finished. We do most of our work in the studio together – it’s fine for one person to come up with something, but it’s not a CHVRCHES song until it’s been bounced back and forth between the three of us”.

Richard Pryor (or whatever it’s called) may not more evolutionary than revolutionary, but for us, new CHVRCHES material is always welcome.
