The first leg of Mariah Carey’s Elusive Chanteuse tour didn’t exactly go to plan, after hoards of fans took to Twitter to complain that Mimi’s vocal abilities are no longer up to par.
Over the weekend, a fan captured a snippet of her show in Japan, which sees Carey’s vocals not living up to the range she was once known for, at times struggling with both the chords and sometimes even forgetting the lyrics.
Fans criticised the Butterfly singer online, with many joking that perhaps her career should have ended in the high that was 2005’s The Emancipation of Mimi.
However, whilst many took to vent their frustration, local press gave the show a thumbs-up. A source close to Gossipcop said “It was not as bad [as the videos]. There were definitely some problems, but overall she was pretty good.”. A further video also pointed to problems onstage with Mariah’s microphone, with Carey even stating she “can’t go on”.
