Story developing:

Legendary Hollywood actor Robin Williams has died, aged 63.

According to reports, Williams was found dead in an apparent suicide, earlier today (Monday 11th August).

Williams found fame in the late 1970s, appearing in cult TV sitcom Mork & Mindy, itself a spin-off of his character of the same name from iconic show Happy Days.

Throughout his career, Williams had always been at the pinnacle of family entertainment, whilst also being noted as one of the most charismatic stand-up comedians of his generation.

His way with audiences led him to major roles in some of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters of recent times, including voicing the role of the Genie in Disney’s Aladdin, as well as his own creation, 1993’s Mrs Doubtfire winning accolades with children around the globe.

The star also appeared in cult movie Good Morning Vietnam, of which he was awarded the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in 1987, whilst a decade later saw him win the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actor as psychologist Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting.

Williams’ press representative has so far made the following statement:

“Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

Williams’ wife Susan Schneider also released the following statement: “I lost my husband & my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings… I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief… [We] hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy & laughter he gave to millions”.

US TV show host Conan O’Brien learned of Robin Williams’ passing during the taping of his show yesterday – watch the clip below where he breaks the devastating news to the audience and guests Andy Richter Will Arnett.
