Update: Secret Cinema cancels all weekend screenings of ‘Back To The Future’

Following the announcement earlier today of Secret Cinema’s cancellation of this evening’s performance of Back To The Future, organisers have confirmed that this weekend’s screenings have also been postponed.

In an email sent to ticket holders moments ago, organisers announced:

Secret Cinema Presents Back to the Future, is our most ambitious production to date out of the 45 large scale productions. Unfortunately, we have experienced exceptional difficulties that we have never previously faced, and had to cancel tonight along with the remainder of this first weekend and plan to re-open next Thursday 31 July. We are hugely sorry for the massive inconvenience this may have caused you.

Secret Cinema founder Fabien Riggall has taken to BBC News to explain that the large-scale recreation of the movie’s iconic setting Hill Valley was unable to meet technical requirements to satisfy local London authorities.

“We are working tirelessly to get this show going,” said Riggall, adding that “We genuinely believed we were ready to open”. Riggall expressed his distress to fans, adding that ticketholders will “be incredibly disappointed and I’m hugely apologetic for that but I cannot expect our audience to have to have the same pressure and frustration another day,”

Secret Cinema have confirmed that Back To The Future will open again next Thursday, 31st July.
