Legendary funk icon Prince joined the Godfather of Disco Nile Rodgers onstage this weekend as part of Rodgers’ set at the annual Essence Festival in New Orleans.
Jamming onstage, Prince and Rodgers belted out a crowd-pleasing performance of David Bowie’s Let’s Dance, produced by Nile Rodgers himself in the early 1980s, and kickstarted his role in the convergence of funk into further mainstream genres (following the death-knell of disco after the ‘Disco Sucks’ movement in the late 70s).
Elsewhere during the show, Kathy Sledge (one part of iconic band Sister Sledge) also made a guest appearance during Rodgers’ set. Catch various clips of the performances below [via CoS and Idolator]
