The stars of Monty Python have recreated their 1979 hit Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life, as the unofficial anthem for England for this summer’s World Cup

Released to coincide with the collective’s reunion shows next month at the O2 Arena, the new version hears Eric Idle throw in an additional line to the second verse, humorously chanting “When you’re in The World Cup, And all your hopes are up, And everybody wants their team to win. Then they go and let you down, And come slinking back to town, It’s time for this daft song to begin.”

The release of the track, available now on iTunes, follows multiple other ‘unofficial’ releases, most recently Lily Allen’s upbeat Bass Like Home. The official anthem for the England team’s venture to Brazil, Gary Barlow’s reworking of Take That hit Greatest Day, was dropped by the FA following tax avoidance scandals earlier this year.
