A surprising article has reached us regarding the possibility of Twitter and Soundcloud in talks for a buyout of the music site’s operations.

According to Re/Code (who iterates that there is no such deal in place as yet, merely potential conversations), sources familiar to both companies have mentioned that a potential deal is under consideration.

Regular readers will probably be well aware of our warm regard for both these services…. in fact we often favour Soundcloud over Spotify; playlist curation and sharing is far more fluid on Soundcloud’s structure vs the ‘virtual iTunes’ possibilities of the latter, whilst our love of Twitter as a way of reaching our core audience, makes us hope that this venture turns out to be true.

Last year, Twitter launched their Twitter Music service under major fanfare, however after an initially high take-up, dropped out of the App Store Top 100 within a matter of weeks over confusion onto how one would use the service – an acquisition of Soundcloud would no doubt offer Twitter the platform (and reach – Soundcloud has over 250m users) to take a second stab at combining music and sharing.

Head over to Re/Code for the full article; it certainly makes for interesting reading, that’s for sure!
