Following request by pop-culture artist Mark Ryden, Tyler the Creator, alongside other artists, have unveiled their unique interpretations of Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two), a track originally recorded over a century ago in 1892.
Speaking of the cover, Tyler wrote on his Facebook page, “I WAS 15 AND BLOWN AWAY BY MARK RYDENS ART WORK, IT WAS LIKE THE SHIT THAT REALLLLLLY CONNECTED WITH ME ALL THE BRIGHT COLORS BUT FUCKED UP SHIT, BUT I ALWAYS SAID ONE DAY I’LL GET THIS DUDE TO DRAW ME AND HE DID LAST YEAR ( WOLF ALBUM COVER) AND IN EXCHANGE HE ASKED IF I DID A SONG FOR AN UPCOMING ART SHOW HE HAS ENTILED ‘THE GAY 90S’. MYSELF, KATY PERRY AND SOME OTHERS ALL MADE OUR OWN VERSION OF THIS SONG ENTITLED ‘DAISY BELL’, HERE IS MINE. AND GO LOOK TO HIS ART SHOW IN HOLLYWOOD AND KOHN GALLERY!”
It sure is a bizarre choice of interpretation, one which Nick Cave, Katy Perry and Weird Al Yankovic have also covered. Stream all the renditions below:
