One Direction are to open next month’s Radio 1 Big Weekend, the station has confirmed.
The British boyband, announced earlier this morning on Radio 1 by DJ Nick Grimshaw, means they will join the previously-announced Coldplay, Rita Ora, The 1975 and Paolo Nutini at the two-day event in Glasgow on 24th/25th.
Also confirmed to join One Direction are Bastille, Pharrell Williams, Lily Allen, Ed Sheeran and Jake Bugg, who will all round off the ‘Main Stage’ on the Saturday. Meanwhile, Tinie Tempah, Kings of Leon, The Vamps, Katy Perry, John Newman will be leading the Sunday fun.
Radio 1 DJs Annie Mac, Zane Lowe and Pete Tong will also be joined by Tiesto and Martin Garrix to kick off all the celebrations in George Square the night before, on Friday 23rd May, whilst 1Xtra will also cater for the more specialist market with DJ’s MistaJam and Charlie Sloth being joined by DJ Fresh, Duke Dumont and more for their own feast of fun.
