Unreleased Michael Jackson track ‘Slave To The Rhythm’ confirmed for Sony Xperia Z2 ad

Following various unofficial low-quality leaks over the years (the latest featuring Justin Bieber’s vocals), Michael Jackson’s unreleased track Slave To The Rhythm has been unveiled in the new commercial for Sony’s latest mobile handset, the Xperia Z2.

An official statement regarding the track was also provided, coinciding with the airing of the new advert in the early hours: “The Estate of Michael Jackson and Epic Records are very excited about the partnership with Sony Mobile announced this morning at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. We are thrilled with the use of the new solo Michael Jackson recording, Slave To The Rhythm, which is featured in the 90 second online spot for the new Xperia Z2 phone.”

Slave To The Rhythm was originally recorded during Jackson’s Dangerous era in the early 90s, however took until 1998 for the track to be fully completed. It was considered to be used on 2001’s Invincible, but never made the final cut. The song then leaked online in the summer of 2010. Only last year, pop star Justin Bieber recorded a duet version featuring Michael’s vocals, however it was quickly deemed unauthorized by Michael’s Estate.

Watch the full TV spot below; we’re hopeful that Slave To The Rhythm will be the first cut from a forthcoming new album of unreleased material. It’s widely known that Timbaland has been working on various tracks (with one titled Chicago), all of which are set to be revealed at some point this year.
