Live review: Mutya Keisha Siobhan – ‘Sacred Three’ tour (Shepherds Bush Empire)

Mutya Keisha Siobhan closed their Sacred Three tour at Shepherd’s Bush Empire last night, in their home town, the place where it all began.

So much has been documented surrounding the line-up changes, in-band fighting and name change, and yet the overarching feeling was that it doesn’t really matter, a point which was hauntingly made in the last few lines of opening song Promises from their debut as the Sugababes on One Touch.

All the over-sexualisation of the latter-day Sugababes-era have been stripped away, and the girls’ incredible vocal talent and harmonies have rightly taken centre stage once again.

New offerings stood tall alongside the classics, I’m Alright seemed a highlight and a clear single-in-waiting, whilst No Regrets added to the feeling of redemption to the show; they’ve chosen life.

Siobhan approached the ‘Heidi-era’ Sugababes tracks, with gracefulness, even expressing her nerves of singing her favourite, Too Lost In You. The songs belonged to her, as she belonged to her fans who cheered each time she owned a Heidi line – Stronger was a real moment.

The rumpus of the Push The Button and Freak like Me performances in the crowd echoed the genuine happiness in the girls’ eyes, whilst a special moment belonged to a slightly-tweaked version of their infamous Kendrick Lamar Swimming Pools cover from earlier in the year; everything was as it should be.

Flatline closed the show as Keisha thanked those that supported the single. With the new material and performances being so promising, we can only hope that support notches up a gear or two as it would be awful to get here, to this place of near perfection, only for it to end (again).
