Rapper and mega-producer Kanye West has bared all to Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe in a 4-part special interview.
Check out Pt 1 here – the rest will follow throughout the week. In this instalment, West speaks candidly regarding the impact of new album Yeezus and how it ‘broke boundaries’. Describing the album Kanye opens “I was able to start just making what was exactly on my mind again, and not having to speak with the textures of the time….. Everybody is bound to these, no pun intended, they’re bound to 16 bars, eight bars, and the normal radio thing.”
He continues announcing Michael Jackson (like so many other global stars) was the inspiration for his life both musically and spiritually – “For me, as Kanye West, I would not be Kanye West if it wasn’t for Michael Jackson,” he says. “Michael Jackson, he had to fight to get his video played because he was black. This is Michael Jackson.”
