After a fair amount of publicity, the odd teaser, and a stellar VMA performance, US pop star Katy Perry has unveiled the official video to her new single Roar.

The track, taken from Perry’s forthcoming album Prism has firmly landed her way back into the pop world, outselling Lady Gaga’s latest anticipated track Applause almost two-to-one on their US release last week.

The video, much like the track itself, focuses on the theme of female empowerment, and sees KATY Perry crash-landing into a jungle with her high-on-power boY. After a scuffle, the singer then makes the way on her own, wrestling an alligator, befriending all matter of animals, and taming a tiger. All combine together to end up helping Perry become the queen of the jungle.

It’s all very extravagant and theatrical, however much like Katy Perry herself, everything just ‘works’.

Perry is set to close this year’s iTunes Festival in Camden’s Roundhouse venue on 30th September, following in the footsteps of stars including Lady Gaga (who opened the month-long event), to Justin Timberlake, Elton John and the Rizzle Kicks.
