MTV VMA rumour roundup / live stream

It’s been a long-time coming, but finally MTV’s annual Video Music Awards (aka VMAs) are upon us, and as with all of these types of events, the rumour mill has gone in to overdrive. With a plethora of artists already confirmed to play at the event, three names have stood out in the yet-to-be-confirmed stakes.

Just added – Eminem

Eminem has just Instagrammed a photo of the VMA logo, with the headline ‘Guess who’s REALLY back?’. This could be a completely unexpected performance, but one that clearly fans will enjoy.

With the Detroit rapper’s new single Survival currently getting the thumbs up from critics, the artist’s inclusion into the lineup will be a massive kudos for MTV. Now, how’s he going to get from Leeds Festival to Brooklyn in the next few hours??

N*Sync
That’s right, Justin Timberlake’s musical career started in 90s boyband NSync (or N*Sync, if we’re being trademark-correct!). Whilst Timberlake has gone on to forge a career full of credibility, penache and style, unfortunately the other four members seem to have become victim of the lost-grave-of-popstars. Nevertheless, yesterday an official @NSync twitter account appeared, with a simple tweet following:

Now, whilst yes of course it could be a parody fan account, there’s two things that make the account feel genuine:
1) It’s been verified by Twitter already.
2) The account only follows 14 users; five of these are all NSync members.

And one last thing…. Timberlake recently confirmed a surprise for his performance at the VMAs….

Daft Punk
The robots have had one hell of a year, with new album Random Access Memories gaining the top spot the world-over, whilst their Nile Rodgers-produced (and Pharrell Williams-featuring) track Get Lucky became the sound of the summer. However, they have yet to publicly appear to drive further PR to their already-successful year.

However, several weeks back, the French dance duo were scheduled to appear on US TV show ‘The Colbert Report’, however cancelled a mere 36 hours before recording. The reason? An apparent exclusive agreement between MTV and the band highlighting that they were to take the stage, whilst contracts between the two parties meant that Daft Punk’s only live performance must be at the Awards ceremony itself.

Beyonce
A fairly new add to the rumour-mill, and after a stellar year of performance after performance, I guess nobody even spared a thought for Beyonce turning up to the VMAs.

However, nigh on 30 minutes ago, reporters started to leak possible information on Twitter.

Now, whether they’re trying to add their own rumour or not (which come on, some of us have thought about at some point), you can’t blame these reporters for trying to whip up a frenzy. Regardless though, it’s not long until we find out whether both NSync, Beyonce or Daft Punk actually live up to the rumours. Whether they do or don’t though, with a lineup that includes Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Robin Thicke, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miley Cyrus, Drake and Bruno Mars, it’s gonna be one hell of a party in Brooklyn tonight!
