Ed Sheeran has confirmed that his forthcoming sophomore album will be titled x.

The album, the follow-up to 2011’s hugely-successful +, follows Sheeran’s undoubted trend to release studio projects under a symbol vs words, a move initially made in order to limit illegal searches and downloads of his debut via search engines.

Sheeran announced the news of the new album moments ago on Twitter:

x will be preceded by lead single, Sing, which is set to get its world premiere on Monday (7th April) on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show, at 7.30pm GMT. Sheeran has additionally confirmed that a short preview of Sing will be unveiled on Saturday (5th April).
