MNEK unveils Lumidee ‘Never Leave You’ refix

Almost eleven years have passed since US artist Lumidee dropped her Busta Rhymes-featuring debut Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh), to massive notoriety. Casting your mind forward to present day, and now rising British producer/vocalist MNEK has taken his magic palm onto the track, with an interesting refix of the R&B/hip-hop dancefloor cut.

New music: Kyla La Grange – ‘Cut Your Teeth’ (prod. by Jakwob)

Watford-based Kyla La Grange has followed up her 2012 LP Ashes with new track Cut Your Teeth.

Produced by Jakwob, the track continues the theme of electro-pop that has started forming precedence over the past 18 months, and citing Four Tet and Fever Ray amongst her playlist, La Grange’s new material (set to drop on 9th March) could be a strong inclusion to the ever-changing British pop landscape.

New music: Gorgon City – ‘No More’ ft. Liv

Gorgon City have premiered a new track from their as-yet-untitled forthcoming album, set to land later this year.

No More, featuring vocalist Liv, is a funky soulful track from the house duo, and, should it be released as a single, a perfect follow-up to the MNEK-featuring Ready For Your Love.

Elli Ingram covers Chance The Rapper’s ‘Cocoa Butter Kisses’ in 1Xtra Live Lounge

Stagedoor FM favourite Elli Ingram has finally had her stab at 1Xtra’s Live Lounge, and as always, the end results were sublime.

Covering Chance The Rapper’s Cocoa Butter Kisses earlier today during her visit to Trevor Nelson’s show, Ingram proved why she’s such a strong signing to Chase and Status’ MTA label.

Rising US artist BANKS has premiered a stunning rendition of her track Change, as part of SBTV’s A64 acoustic series.

Brooklyn Bowl readying up UK launch at The O2

Following on from our piece late last year regarding New York’s infamous Brooklyn Bowl opening its doors this side of the pond, more details have been unveiled regarding the launch of the new 800-capacity venue at London’s O2.

Set to officially open its doors on 16th January, the concert venue / bowling alley / diner will feature three nights of performances by The Brooklyn Bowl All-Star Players, a collective of Brooklyn’s finest funk and soul musicians from Daptone’s Antibalas and Royal Family Records’ Lettuce and Soulive.

The original Brooklyn Bowl, which opened in NY’s famous district in 2009, has become renowned in a short space of time, featuring a diverse range of acts, including Kanye West, Adele, Big Boi, Moby, Talib Kweli, HAIM and many more. Speaking of the forthcoming London launch, owner Peter Shapiro said: “When thinking of another city that’s as influential on global culture as New York, there’s only one that immediately stands out….. and that, of course, is London. We’re thrilled to be bringing the Bowl’s unique and multi-pronged vibe to what really is the most important city in the world.”

Jill Scott quasi-confirms new 2014 album

Jill Scott has semi-confirmed on Twitter that she will be releasing a new album this year.

The long-awaited release from the Queen of Soul, follows her 2011 album The Light Of The Sun (one of our favourites here at Stagedoor FM towers).

More as we hear it, but put it this way, we’re excited!

New music: Chromeo – ‘Come Alive’ (feat. Toro y Moi)

Electro-funk group Chromeo have premiered their new single, the delectable Come Alive featuring US producer/singer Toro y Moi.

Set to feature on the duo’s upcoming fourth studio album White Women, the disco-inspired funk-filled joint is wonderful and, fingers-crossed, could be one of the sounds of this summer, following on where Daft Punk’s Get Lucky left off.

Ashanti previews new track ‘First Real Love’, ft Beenie Man

Ashanti continues the [slow] onslaught of new music with First Real Love, a collaboration with dancehall king Beenie Man.

It’s not yet confirmed as to when we’re likely to hear the full version, or whether the track will appear in Ashanti’s long-delayed new album, but on first listen, it’s an exciting proposition from the ex-Murder Inc vocalist.
